For the fourth time, the Hungarian Wine Writers (Magyar Borszakírók Köre) evaluated the dry and semi-dry white and red wines made by Hungarian producers that their members have tasted over the past year, and based on their experience were listed on the “Super 12” list. In 2019, a total of 14 wine regions were represented on the “Super 12” list including Villány (5), Szekszárd (4); Balatonfüred-Csopak, Eger, Etyek, Tokaj (2-2).
As part of this special competition, the members of the judging panel first ranks the wines of the past five years that was considered to be “of outstanding quality and competitive in international comparison”, and then the most voted ones are tasted and scored twice by two committees.
At the end, one red and one white wines are awarded the title “Hungarian Wine Grand Prix”.
In 2019, the winners were Szigligeti Cabbage Italian Riesling 2015 from the Szászi Winery (Szászi Birtok Szigligeti Kabócás Olaszrizling 2015) and the Tiffán’s Winery Grande Selection of Villány 2015.
The winners will be awarded at a ceremonial awards gala event to take place on Saturday, January 25th at the Deri Museum between 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. During the evening, the award-winning winemakers will showcase their best wines.
