Debrecen is represented in the Dining Guide Top100 Restaurant Guide.

The Dining Guide Top100 Restaurant Guide has again this year listed exactly where to go to find the best rural restaurants in Hungary. IKON restaurant in Debrecen is on the top list, while Jardin pastry shop has also been included in the best pastry shops section.

The top 10 restaurants in the Hungarian countryside are Platán Gourmet Restaurant in Tata, but in addition to Esztergom and Villány, we can also visit Őrség and the shores of Lake Balaton, while restaurants in Encs, Dánszentmiklós and Debrecen also feature in the top 10.

“It is very difficult to compare all the restaurants on the gastronomic map of the country. That’s why when we score the Dining Guide TOP 100 Restaurant Guide, we also take into account how it performs in relation to the standard expected of a given type of restaurant. In addition to comparing the quality of the restaurants, we also assess how well the restaurant delivers on its own promises.” – said Zoltán Herczeg, publisher of the Dining Guide.

Top 10 rural restaurants in 2024 according to the Dining Guide Top100 Restaurant Guide:

  • Platan Gourmet – Tata
  • 42 Restaurant – Esztergom
  • Sauska 48 – Villány
  • Pajta – Őriszentpéter
  • My Mum Told Me – Encs
  • Platán Bistro – Tata
  • Kistücsök – Balatonszemes
  • Bistro Sparhelt – Balatonfüred
  • Botanica – Dánszentmiklós
  • IKON – Debrecen

The IKON restaurant in Debrecen is described as one of the rising stars of the Eastern Hungarian region, which has been delivering a predictable high quality of contemporary fine dining restaurants for years. Ádám Thür, a motivated chef with a strong vision, took over the restaurant after a teenage internship in England and has since then been striving to create dishes with a modern yet accessible approach.

As well as using local ingredients, IKON has its own garden, where the quantity of ingredients grown is increased from season to season, adding significantly to the value of the restaurant’s sustainability efforts.

This year’s Dining Guide’s best pastry shops section includes the Jardin pastry shop on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street, which serves modern French-style desserts. They posted about the ranking on their Facebook page:

“We are very proud to be included in such a prestigious publication. Now we feel a bit like all the work of the past years has paid off. We are especially pleased to be included in the list of sustainable pastry shops. Environmental awareness is an important aspect for us. We emphasise this often, but perhaps not often enough. We try to choose ingredients that come from local producers, we process the fruits of our own garden. We pay attention to seasonality, recycling, packaging materials. We produce everything we can ourselves.”
