The University Church, designed by József Borsos, is located next to the main buildig of the University of Debrecen. It opened in 1938-39, on the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of the Reformed College, and completed in 1942.
The interior of the church was originally decorated with a coffered ceiling with floral decorations by Jenő Haranghy and 35 leaded glass windows depicting biblical themes – some sources say only floral motifs. The coffered ceiling has been preserved. It was nationalised in the 1970s and housed a periodicals and music library. The university church was returned to the Tiszántúli Reformed Church District in 2001. The first service was held in 2007.
Nowadays the church is also used for cultural events and conferences.
