Debrecen Flower Carnival (www.debreceniviragkarneval.hu)
Date: 15-20 August 2025
One of the country’s longest running and most popular cultural events, this year the whole of Debrecen will be “covered in flowers”. The first flower parade was launched 120 years ago at the initiative of the Debrecen Women’s Association, symbolizing the unity of a noble cause. This year’s carnival goes back to this initiative from the beginning of the century, to make the Flower Carnival once again a celebration of community unity and value creation. Civil society organizations, companies and artistic communities come together to show what it means to be a citizen of Debrecen today.
This year, the Debrecen Flower Carnival will focus even more on the community experience and the spectacular overall artistic presence:
In addition to the flower floats, dance troupes, NGOs and creative communities will play a prominent role.
German, Turkish, Italian, Spanish, French, Chinese, Brazilian and Greek dance groups will also be part of this year’s carnival parade.
A community flower float will be created with the participation of the city’s residents, and floral installations will be displayed in several locations in the city.
