Jégvirágkarnevál (Ice Flower Carnival)

The highlight of the first weekend of Debrecen Advent is the Jégvirágkarnevél (Ice Flower Carnival), which brings a winter twist to the city’s famous Flower Carnival. This spectacular parade features winter-themed floats, dancers illuminated by dazzling lights and impressive performances that delight audiences of all ages. The event promises an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike. On this day, Debrecen’s Advent lights are switched on, marking the beginning of the most magical time of the year.

Advent Ice Rink

It’s hard to imagine a more special setting for a delightful winter skating experience than Kossuth Square, glowing with festive lights in front of the magnificent Great Reformed Church. One of the most popular attractions of Debrecen Advent, the open-air ice rink offers unforgettable moments for visitors of all ages in a truly magical setting. The cosy atmosphere of the Christmas market and the sparkling lights make skating here an especially memorable experience. In 2025, Debrecen’s Advent ice rink was awarded the title of Europe’s most beautiful Christmas ice rink.
Ugly Christmas Sweater Run

The Advent season is not just about cosy moments; it’s also about fun and shared experiences. The Ugly Christmas Sweater Run brings a playful, carefree spirit to the festive season. As the name suggests, colourful, funny jumpers featuring Christmas patterns take centre stage as participants get into the holiday spirit with a cheerful group run.

Advent Concerts, Candle Lighting and Festive Gatherings
The Advent stage on Kossuth Square sets the festive mood with concerts, musical performances and a varied programme of entertainment. Christmas melodies and open-air concerts create a special atmosphere in the square in front of the impressive Great Reformed Church. The candle-lighting ceremonies on Advent Sundays bring moments of quiet reflection to the lively market, offering an opportunity to pause for a while and share in the joy of waiting for Christmas.

Fairy-Tale Town comes to life on Dósa nádor Square, where festively decorated little houses and Christmas trees evoke the magic of the season.
