A Fantastic Summer Events Programme Awaits You in Debrecen

In addition to the city center, the Great Forest will become a lively cultural venue during the summer of 2020. Among other things, Flower Carnival Week will begin on the 15th of August.

There will be several theatre productions held on the Open-Air stage,  and in addition to these, the ‘Zsigmond Móricz Theater’ in Nyíregyháza will be a guest on-stage with a successful production which was selected together with director Szente Vajk for a Hungarian performance last year. Despite its light-hearted nature, the musical has an in-depth message that has a lot to say on the topic of equal opportunities for men and women, in the spirit of the #metoo campaign.

Open Air Theatre – Great Forest, Debrecen

Between July 19 and September 15, twenty productions will be held at the Great Forest Open-Air Theatre that will bring the most outstanding performances of Hungarian performing artists. The slogan “Where We Find Each Other Again” chosen for this season accordingly carries the reunion of the actor and the audience. Discounted tickets for certain theater performances can be redeemed as part of an early bird promotion until July 5, 2020.

The Flower Carnival should not be missed in Debrecen this year either, and there will be all the traditions and novelties previously seen.  From August 15-22, there will be several flower carnival programs held in the city, which have delighted so many over the years.

  • “Dancing in the City” event will be organized, where dance performances with a real carnival atmosphere will take place with the participation of local art ensembles,
  • “Classics Night” concert, in the framework of which the Kodály Philharmonic will perform Beethoven IX. symphony at Kossuth Square
  • “Nights of Lights” program will be held again. An internationally recognized creative group creates contemporary light art content throughout the city.

Last but not least the flower-covered cars could be seen as well.

There will be no shortage of gastronomic experiences this summer either. You can enjoy Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days, the Czech Beer Garden, and the Debrecziner Gourmet Festival.
