Programs at the Agóra Science Center in July

In July, the Agora Science Experience Centre will continue to offer interesting programmes for children and adults interested in science, with astronomy programmes, exciting experiments and interactive games.

There will be evening activities at the Agora again this summer! Every Wednesday in July and August, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., we will be offering a special “cooling” experiment, a solar system tour, and planetarium short films, and visitors will also have the opportunity to try out the unique interactive games in the Experience Centre, and, if the weather is nice, to spy the sky with binoculars from 9.30 p.m. after sunset.

Pre-registration is required for the Starry Evening at the Agora. For more information visit:

On Sundays in July, the BASF Puppy Lab will be open to individual visitors! “The Clever Foodies – Eat Smart!” programme will give participants the chance to carry out exciting experiments and find out what liquid can be used to detect the presence of vitamin C in a fruit, how vitamins are grouped, and what pigments are.

Programmes in the digital planetarium

Bringing down the stars!
Night sky during the day in the Agora! Under the huge dome, 8 metres in diameter, the astronomer of the Agora will give a lecture. The 20-25 minute programme will tell you more about the summer constellations and current celestial phenomena.

Stars and supernovas
How long do stars live? What is the fate of our Sun? What is a supernova explosion? Is there life after the death of stars? In the new Agora Planetarium programme, visitors can follow the birth, life and death of stars, the recent and striking eclipse of the famous red giant star Betelgeuse in the constellation Orion, and discover that supernovae, spectacular phenomena of our Universe, are not just harbingers of destruction.

Satelix
What are satellites for and what will their future hold? What can Hungarian space tools do? What impact do space developments have on our lives? This full-length film, made by TIT Budapest Planetarium staff in collaboration with Czech, Polish, Slovak and German planetariums, shows the aims and achievements of European satellites and how space exploration affects our daily lives.

From Earth to the Universe
The European Southern Observatory’s half-hour full-duplex film spans amazing distances in time and space. From the birth of the Universe to the last moments of the Solar System, we follow the life of stars and planets, the milestones of ancient and modern space exploration, and the relationship between man and space. The Hungarian version was produced by the Agora Science Experience Centre. Narrator – Klári Varga

Shining skies
Two full-length short films will be shown in the planetarium programme. The first will take you to the very depths of the Milky Way system with the help of special telescopes from the European Southern Observatory, while the second will take you to exotic landscapes in a captivating timelapse video of Eric Freeman’s own electronic music composition.

Europe among the stars
How long have people been looking at the stars? How did we discover that the universe is expanding? Why is Europe’s largest observatory outside Europe? This full-length film gives a glimpse behind the scenes at the European Southern Observatory and reveals how the world’s most powerful telescope was built. The half-hour film will be shown in English.

The Sun, our life-bearing star
Can we really take the Sun for granted? Will it always shine like this? Why can we say that the Sun is the source of all life on Earth? There are still more questions than answers about our life-giving star, the one closest to us. The half-hour spectacular full-length film is being shown in English.

The planetarium offers a limited number of first-come, first-served programmes, with a pass to the Agora. Planetarium shows are recommended for children from 6 years of age. For information on current planetarium programmes, visit www.agoradebrecen.hu.

Permanent Programmes

In the Interactive Space of the Agora Science Experience Centre, you can try out almost forty special games closely linked to a scientific phenomenon. In addition, visitors can attend several experimental demonstrations and planetarium presentations every day. Detailed daily programmes are available at www.agoradebrecen.hu.

Musical thunderbolts
Ever seen lightning in a room? Have you listened? Agora’s Frankenstein-esque device can make thunderous sounds come from the swirling of arc discharges. What’s more, the Tesla coil can also emit musical sounds using a piano keyboard. So anyone can try their hand at making music with lightning!
