Summer is no time to miss the cinema, and it’s perhaps even more fun to watch a film when the garden cinemas open, where you can immerse yourself in the world of cinema under the stars for a few hours. There are two outdoor screenings in Debrecen: in the inner garden of MODEM and in the courtyard of 24 Batthyány Street.
MODEM Garden Cinema
As in previous years, the Garden Cinema has opened in the inner garden of MODEM, where you can watch both classic films and contemporary cinema, in collaboration with Apollo Cinema. The line-up opened with the iconic Dirty Dancing, but also includes Ace Ventura and the Hungarian animated film Blue Pelican.

Sommerkino – Summer screenings
From 17 July 2024, for five weeks on Wednesday evenings, German language and film culture enthusiasts can meet in the courtyard of 24 Batthyány Street. This is the latest in the series of #GermanPlusDebrecen cultural events, an excellent opportunity for those who love and learn German to exchange German with Germans, Austrians and Swiss who live or work in Debrecen.
The German Cultural Forum in Debrecen, which organizes the event, is traditionally showing five films this summer. The films from the German-speaking region will be screened in their original language with Hungarian subtitles.
