14 Hungarian artistic groups with nearly 1,500 dancers and eight foreign groups with 200 artists will be at this year’s Debrecen Flower Carnival. Seven of the eight international groups are coming to Debrecen for the first time.
The performers from the Chinese group, who will accompany a snake-like dragon, folklore’s most significant supernatural creature, along the parade route, will be particularly spectacular.
Almost all the dance schools and dancers in Debrecen will show their skills at the carnival, with thirty groups currently scheduled to take part in the Debrecen Flower Carnival, Főnix Rendezvényszervező Közhasznú Nonprofit Kft. told the local newspaper.
Among other things, folk dancing will be traditionally present through several local dance groups (Debreceni Hajdú Táncegyüttes, Debreceni Népi Együttes, Forgórózsa Táncegyüttes and Főnix Néptáncegyüttes) but there will also be majorette (Debreceni Mazsorett Együttes, Feeling Tánc és Mazsorett Egyesület) and belly dancing (Amirah Hastánc és Mozgás Stúdió, Nailah Hastánc Stúdió).
Dance Universe will also be performing during Carnival week. They will be performing at the Flower Court, the Galiba Festival and various city locations.
The Flower Carnival will feature samba choreography accompanied by the Szilhalmi Brass Band. Modern music can be expected, and we will be accompanied by a conga, playing along with the group. We will have 119 musicians and a 45-piece orchestra to accompany us.
Alíz Tóth, head of the LESZ DANCE Dance and Sports Association, which is a specialist in Latin and standard dances and show dances, said that the marching group will also consist of about 90 people.
