Hortobágy reopens!

Thanks to the easing of restrictions imposed due to the foot-and-mouth epidemic, from 16 May 2025 the tourist attractions of Hortobágy will be open again!

One of the most popular Hortobágy activities, the Puszta Horse-Carriage Ride from the Máta Stud Farm, takes visitors to Hortobágy to discover the exceptional natural landscape, native domestic animals and the shepherds who keep them. The program is available until 31 May at the same discounted price as last year.

Before or after a ride, it’s always worth stopping for refreshments at the Nyerges Presszó, which is also open from 16 May and offers a view of the central stables.

In the Puszta Zoo, a favorite with families with young children, you can learn about Hungarian domestic animals and animal buildings in a farm atmosphere.

The educational trails of the Hortobágy National Park Directorate are open again. The Szálkahalmi nature trail, the Hortobágy Fish Ponds nature trail, the Górési nature trail of the Egyek-pusztakócs marshes and the Bihari plain nature trail are open to visitors every day of the week.

From 16 May 2025, the Hortobágy Wildlife Park will be open except Mondays, and the extra safari optional service will be available. During the renovation works, which are nearing completion, the Wildlife Park is open to all with a discounted (student/retired) ticket.

The renewed Hortobágy Shepherd Museum and Visitor Centre also offers two interactive exhibitions “The Nature of the Hortobágy” and “Pusztai Treasure Trove – The Benefits of Livestock”.

A new experience has been added to the services of the Hortobágy Visitor Centre. In the “sealed room” of the Puszta Treasure House, you can experience the adventure of a wagon trip in realistic VR, while you can imagine yourself in the shoes of a traveler of the Hungarian Puszta. During the journey, you can travel through a whole year in about 15 minutes and expand your knowledge in the course of an adventure trip.
