Must-see exhibitions in January

At the beginning of the New Year, it’s worth taking advantage of the quiet days to explore Debrecen’s cultural treasures. The temporary exhibitions in the Museum Quarter offer a colorful visual experience.

I observe quietly, I create subjectively – exhibition of contemporary painter Emese Bács
Date: 19 January – 22 February 2024
Venue: Bény Gallery

Emese Bács’s paintings reveal intimate emotions and memories, on which we can observe a multitude of symbols. The images make the crowdedness and noise of urban existence almost audible, as urban, industrial environments come to life. The sight of cars, of travelling in the subway, of busy streetscapes, evoke a constant rush and movement. It is in these urban landscapes that one immerses oneself, always searching for one’s own place, one’s own connections, and the moments in which one can find pleasure. Emese Bács also incorporates everyday pieces of material that have fallen into disuse into the paintings and sculptures – for example, textiles, puzzle pieces, nets and pharmaceutical foils can be observed when we take a closer look at what we see.
