This September 3rd, 2022, Szaft ‘N Burger invites burger lovers to Debrecen. The event which is now in its second year is a great event for groups of friends and families who enjoy hamburgers, steaks, barbecue, concerts, craft beers, shows, performances, and a national competition.
Picture a fantastic day themed around the burger, located on the shores of Lake Békás. Professional individual competition, individual amateur, freestyle, and junior categories, as well as team competitions for families, friends, and company teams!
New to the program this year is the steakhouse competition, this time focusing on Angus sirloin steak, a cooking competition.
Families, groups of friends, and children are welcome, as, in addition to the professional category with a cash prize, there will also be an amateur individual category, a team competition, a junior competition, and a freestyle competition (with other meats, fish, or vegan ingredients).
In the professional, amateur, team, and junior categories, the competition will be held with premium Hortobágy Angus steaks provided by the organisers, but of course the cash prize steak frying competition will also feature Hortobágy Angus sirloin steaks. This year, the atmosphere will be enhanced by a music programme.
Be there for the all-day picnic, watch the pros, listen to the professional presentations, enter a team of family or friends, and sample the delicacies of a number of burger and barbecue teams and the home brews, wines, and other delicacies on parade.

2:00 p.m. – 2:20 p.m. Cooking show: ChiliYard presentation and HA grilled sausage tasting with the new sauce
2:20 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Not all Angus are the same: Hortobágy Angus and Certified Hungarian Angus – discussion
4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Cooking show: Jani Jancsa: Hortobágy Angus Kolosszus – burger grilling

If you love burgers and quality meats, this is the place for you, either as a participant or as a spectator. Later in September, we’ll find out who the master is, and who creates the country’s best burger. The professional competition is also in the running for prize money totaling 350,000 HUF. But we welcome entries from friends, companies, and family teams, and there will also be competitions in the individual, amateur, freestyle (anything not beef), and junior categories.
You can also compete in the steak categories on the barbecue grill!
Admission to the event is free to the public.
The event is organised by Hortobágy Angus in cooperation with the Főnix Event Organisation Non-profit Ltd., with the professional support of the Grill Academy. The jury will be chaired by Jani Jancsa, gastro blogger, culinary director of Bamba Beef Burger Bar, and author of The Big Burger Book. The steak jury will be chaired by András Sebestyén, professional manager of the Darose and Olive restaurants in Vienna and Culinary World Cup gold medallist.
