Following the Carnival Week, Debrecen will once again host the 3×3 basketball world championships between August 26 and 31, 2025. In addition to the cash prize competition for professional women’s and men’s teams, this time a new junior competition has also been added to the program in the arena set up in front of the Great Church.

As we have become accustomed to over the past decade, Debrecen becomes the capital of 3×3 between the Flower Carnival and the start of school in September. This year’s six-day basketball festival will kick off with a new series, the U21 Nations League, which is a novelty for the audience in Debrecen, and will conclude with the familiar Women’s Series and World Tour rounds.
The International Basketball Federation has thoroughly revamped the 3×3 youth competitions for 2025, removing the World and European Championships, which had been held numerous times in Debrecen, from the competition calendar. They have been replaced by the Nations League, which is a more sustainable series in every respect and, moreover, was justified from a sporting point of view due to the further development of the discipline. Accordingly, the world’s national teams have been divided into six-team regions, which will compete against each other over six rounds to qualify for the next stage.

The Hungarian U21 national teams were placed in Group 2 of Europe, alongside France, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Qatar. The first three rounds were held in Szolnok, where the men won one silver and two bronze medals, while the women finished second once and fourth twice. The remaining three competitions will be held in Debrecen, so visitors will be able to watch a one-day tournament next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
From Friday, the professional teams will be in the spotlight, with the Women’s Series final on Saturday and the World Tour final on Sunday. As was the case last year, we will be cheering on the Győr team in the women’s competition and Debrecen, which is based on the Hungarian national team, in the men’s competition. As in previous years, admission to all events is free.
In addition to fast-paced and exciting matches and the unique atmosphere typical of street sports, the organizers are also treating visitors to a side event. Next to the courts set up in front of the Great Church, the Food Truck Fiesta will also take place this week, where several mobile restaurants will await visitors with gastronomic specialties from all over the world. The aim of the event is to provide street food lovers, families, groups of friends, and tourists with an unforgettable culinary experience with unique, artisanal, and freshly prepared dishes.
