The best of 3×3 basketball will compete again on Debrecen’s main square.

Following the carnival week, the 3×3 World Championships will be held again on Debrecen’s main square between 24 August and 1 September. As last year, the arena on Kossuth Square will host three events in a row, with the U18 World Championship and the men’s and women’s professional teams’ cash prize tournaments.

After the Olympic qualifiers in May, the best in 3×3 basketball will return to the city for the second time in 2024, and this year will also mark a major milestone for the Debrecen events, as the best in the sport will be playing in front of the Great Church for the 10th year in a row since their debut in 2015. The women will be the first to take to the court in the nine-day basketball fiesta, which will be the last of 19 qualifying rounds of the Women’s Series before the Grand Final in Hangzhou, China. In the eight-team field, the Hungarian team will also be cheered on by Debrecen-born Zita Szabó, who won bronze at the U18 World Championships.

After that, the U18 World Championship will begin, which will be hosted by Debrecen for the fourth time in a row. The five-day event will see 20-20 men’s and 20 women’s teams compete for medals, with DEAC Basketball Academy standout Ferenc Varga also playing a role in the latter four. It’s no exaggeration to say that the tournament will feature the stars of the future, as evidenced by the fact that the 2015 Debrecen event featured Payton Pritchard and P.J. Washington, who recently faced off in the NBA Grand Final.

As is customary, the event will conclude with the World Tour Masters featuring the men’s professional teams and the Hungarian national team, alongside several Paris Olympians. This year Debrecen will be one of the host cities of the series, alongside cities such as Amsterdam, Marseille, Edmonton, Shanghai and Abu Dhabi.

Admission to all three tournaments is free of charge, but FIBA will broadcast the matches live on its YouTube channel. The organizing committee is preparing a host of surprises for fans of the sport, including a 3×3 themed flower car, which debuted at the Flower Carnival.

Agenda:

24-25 August – Women’s Series
26-30 August – U18 World Championship
31 August – 1 September – World Tour Masters
