Women’s EHF EURO 2024 – History in the Making

The 2024 EHF European Women’s Handball Championship will be a landmark event in women’s handball history, as for the first time ever 24 nations will participate in the tournament, making it the biggest ever women’s EURO! From 28 November to 15 December 2024, teams will compete in three countries, Austria, Hungary and Switzerland. Three countries with different cultures, united by a strong common love of handball. The logo of the tournament reflects this united spirit, with the colors of the three countries – red, white and green – coming together in a dynamic ball.

Three hosts, four cities, one common love

Basel (Switzerland), Innsbruck (Austria) and Debrecen (Hungary) are the host cities and will be the epicenter of excitement in the group matches of the tournament. Basel, a traditional Swiss city on the border between France and Germany, with a vibrant art scene, classic Swiss architecture and mouth-watering chocolate bars, is a real treat for the senses. In Basel The St. Jakobshalle, with a capacity of 6,500, will be the Swiss sports center and handball venue. Heading east across the Austrian border, our next destination is Innsbruck. The capital of Tyrol is a unique blend of urban life, cultural richness and natural beauty. It is a city that captivates all those who love to explore, seek pleasure or search for new inspiration. Surrounded by the beautiful Austrian Alps, matches are held in the Olympiahalle, which has a total capacity of 8,000 seats.

A little less than 1,000 km east, we arrive in Debrecen, the last stop of the group stage. The city boasts a wealth of historical sights, contemporary buildings, a bustling shopping district, and characteristic pubs and cafés, offering exciting opportunities for visitors. The recently renovated 6,500-seat multifunctional Főnix Arena in Debrecen will host the matches.

The semi-finals will be played in Vienna (Austria) and Debrecen (Hungary), while the final weekend will be held in the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, which can accommodate 16 000 spectators. The venue is a fitting end to the tournament in a vibrant city known for its imperial history, baroque architecture, rich musical heritage and thriving café culture, so visitors will not be disappointed.
