Since 1931, we have celebrated World Animal Day each year on the 4th of October, originally assigned this date to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. On animal-friendly calendars this date is marked in red, to raise awareness of the importance of protecting all wildlife, including domesticated animals.
At Debrecen Zoo, it is now a long-standing tradition to bring to you all the wonders of the living world with special thematic guided tours and presentations for a full week to mark this occasion (September 28th to October 4th).
