On the last Sunday in May, the spotlight will once again be on the little ones, with a variety of fun-filled Children’s Day activities awaiting families at numerous locations throughout Debrecen.
Two Days of Thrilling Experiences at the Zoo
Saturday, May 30: The main program kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with a spectacular Two-Sword Samurai demonstration that is sure to amaze the audience. Starting at 2:00 p.m., majestic birds take center stage in the Falconry Show, followed at 2:30 p.m. by Vili the Magician, who will take the stage to enchant the audience. Starting at 3:00 PM, the Katona Band will perform the most famous movie hits, while at the same time a huge, spectacular bubble show will fill the square. The main event of Saturday’s program will conclude at 3:30 PM with the hilarious, high-flying comedy of the Stilt-Walking Garagulya.
Sunday, May 31: The lineup of regular programs expands further: families can look forward to Helen Doron’s language games and the amazing Magic Bike. At 10:40 a.m., Gyuri the Clown sets the tone for Sunday’s main stage with carefree laughter and jokes. From 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, movement takes center stage: as part of the “Let’s Move to the Beat!” program, a variety of dance groups will take turns performing. The dance rhythms will be interrupted at 2:00 PM by a breathtaking, extreme trial bike demonstration, where we’ll witness the masterful art of balancing on a bicycle. Finally, as the perfect finale to the weekend, at 3:00 PM, the Vojtina Puppet Theater—a perennial favorite of children and adults alike—will enchant the audience with its magical performance.
Water Adventures at Aquaticum Beach
With summer heat just around the corner, there’s no better way to celebrate Children’s Day than with a fun-filled family weekend packed with water activities. Debrecen guarantees that authentic beach atmosphere again this year, where family fun, refreshing waves, and countless entertaining activities will make the little ones’ holiday unforgettable.
A special highlight of the event is that BUBU, the beloved mascot, will be there in person to greet the children and keep the fun going.

1:30 PM – Aquafitness: Get moving in the cool water! A rhythmic, energetic family workout that’s the perfect way to kick off the afternoon’s fun.
2:00 PM – Creative Corner: Time to unleash your creativity! Kids can make their own unique bracelets and cool beach hats, which they can wear right away on the beach.
3:00 PM – Water Zumba: Hot rhythms riding the waves! Dance, splash, and party in the pool to the hottest summer hits.
3:30 PM – Face Painting: Transform into a wild animal, a superhero, or a fairy-tale creature! Our professional face painters will make any wish come true.
4:30 PM – Water Games: It’s time for champions! In the shadow of the pirate ship, rowing, target-shooting, and swimming races, as well as a wild balloon-blowing duel, await adventurous kids.
Children’s Day Dance Festival at Nagyerdő
On May 31, the Nagyerdő Open-Air Stage will once again come alive with dance! Organized by the dance working group operating under the Debrecen Cultural Forum, the opening program of the 2026 summer season is here: With the participation of children’s and youth groups from Debrecen’s dance ensembles, everyone is invited to a fun-filled afternoon.
Throughout the afternoon, Debrecen’s leading dance companies, dance schools, and arts groups will showcase a variety of performances. The audience can look forward to spectacular choreography, a cheerful atmosphere, and performances by talented children and young people. The stage will feature modern dance, hip-hop, show dance, majorettes, cheerleading, ballroom dance, folk dance, and children’s dance performances, among others, ensuring there is something for every age group. Admission is free.
Scientific Adventures at the Agora
To celebrate Children’s Day, the Agora Science Experience Center is welcoming families this weekend with special programs and discounted admission tickets. In addition to trying out interactive games and a special edition of the Lufimóka experiment show, children can learn more about baby animals and animal-inspired engineering inventions through exciting educational presentations, and with the help of the planetarium film Cosmix, they can fly to the International Space Station.
This weekend also marks the debut of a new robotics presentation, and at the robot base, visitors can control the Agora’s most dexterous and cutest light-up robots. Light Island will be open to visitors all weekend, where they can not only try out special, light-related interactive devices, but also watch a 180-degree panoramic projection presenting the history of Debrecen.
