Accor Group opens two new hotels in Debrecen soon

At a recent press conference, the leaders of Debrecen and the Accor Hotel Group announced the winner of the tender for the four-star Hotel Lycium. It was announced that Debrecen Asset Management Ltd. (DV Zrt.) has closed the tender procedure for the lease of Hotel Lycium**** Debrecen, which was announced on 28 October 2024 for a period of 10+5 years.

In addition to the lease structure, the applicants had to commit to renovation – with a minimum value of HUF 1 billion – and to involve an international brand in the operation.

Hotel Lycium to be acquired by Accor Group

Following the evaluation of the three bids received, the Board of Directors of DV Zrt. made its final decision on the winning bidder on 6 January 2025. The lease contract was signed on 31 January 2025, while the official handover took place on 3 February 2025 between DV Zrt. and the winning bidder, Szinerty Kft. The winning bidder Szinerty Ltd. is a member of the Szinorg group of companies, Szinorg Universal Zrt. a wholly owned subsidiary of the Synorg Group.

The new tenant will operate the four-star hotel with the involvement of the Accor Group, providing international quality services to Debrecen’s corporate guests. Together with the tenant, the Handwritten Collection brand has been selected from the Accor brand portfolio.

Which houses belong to the Handwritten Collection brand?

The Handwritten Collection is one of Accor’s midscale brands – such as Novotel, Mercure and Tribe. The Handwritten Collection’s technical and operational standards meet the Hotelstars standards for four-star hotels.  The Mercure Debrecen Hotel on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street – which also opened in 2022 as part of the investment by Bajcsy Invest Kft, a member of the Szinorg Group – and now Hotel Lycium Debrecen – will be a member of the Handwritten Collection.

Its joint operation with the Accor Group will provide significant market potential for the city’s business tourism sector

– said at the announcement.

Szinerty Ltd. undertook to complete the renovation of the property within 20 months after the takeover of the hotel, with a minimum value of HUF 1 billion, with the technical content described in its tender, thus ensuring a modern, state-of-the-art technical framework for its operation.  The renovation also includes an energy investment, which will be carried out by Debreceni Hőszolgáltató Zrt., a member company of Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt.

The ibis Styles hotel at Debrecen airport opens in spring

The Accor Group is also the owner of the ibis Styles brand, which will open its first hotel at Debrecen Airport in spring. It will be the first hotel in the immediate vicinity of Debrecen International Airport, the second busiest airport in the country. The newly built hotel will have 72 rooms and 16 apartments on five floors.

The Debrecen property belongs to a brand that combines affordability with a design-oriented ethos. All the brand’s hotels have a unique design and theme, but share a creative aesthetic, friendly service and comfort. The brand’s philosophy is built around storytelling, they say.

With over 670 locations in 55 countries, ibis Styles hotels offer something special for everyone.

ibis Styles Debrecen Airport will be the brand’s fifth hotel in Hungary. Accor’s partner in the project is Xanga Group, one of the largest investment and development groups in Eastern Hungary.

The agreement between the parties will strengthen Accor’s leading position in the hotel industry in Central and Eastern Europe.
