Debrecen will once again host one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, the World Junior Figure Skating and Ice Dancing Championships 2025, from 25 February to 1 March, at the impressive Főnix Arena. This will be the second time that Debrecen has hosted this special event – the last time was in 2016, when the young talents wowed the audience with their performance on ice.

One of the great sensations of Advent was the arrival of El Greco’s world-famous painting, Annunciation, in Debrecen. For those who have not yet seen the work, don’t worry, the painting will be on display in the Munkácsy Hall of the Déri Museum until 12 January 2025, as opposed to the original date.

Good news for skating enthusiasts: due to popular demand, the ice rink on Kossuth Square will be open for another week from 6 January.

Debrecen will welcome the New Year with a grand New Year’s Eve street ball: to the delight of many, BÚÉK Debrecen (Happy New Year Debrecen!) will return to Kossuth Square on New Year’s Eve, 31 December.

On the occasion of the upcoming holidays, the City of Debrecen and the Déri Museum invite everyone to visit the museum for FREE on Monday, December 23 and Sunday, December 29.

DKV Zrt. will launch its Advent music tram again this year. On Monday 23 December, members of the György Maróthi Pedagogical Choir will create an authentic Christmas atmosphere on the CAF light tram from the Grand Station at 17:00 on Line 2.

In the four weeks of Advent, you can get in the mood for the holidays with intimate Christmas concerts. Unusual venues, popular hits and acknowledged artists guarantee a memorable experience. The Bagossy Brothers Company, Charlie, the Alma band, Zoltán Bereczki and the Cotton Club Singers will be among the performers.
