More than 100 programs, 200 performers, nearly 500 contributors and 120 wooden houses at 6 locations in the city center: the Debrecen Advent program series opened its doors on November 29.

Debrecen Advent awaits its audience with more than a hundred uplifting productions and high-quality porters, as well as a gastronomic offer tailored to the holiday season from November 29 to December 23.

Women’s EHF EURO 2024 – History in the Making

From 28 November, the best women’s handball players from 24 nations will compete at the 2024 EHF Women’s Handball European Championship, which will be held in Debrecen.

The 2024 EHF European Women’s Handball Championship will be a landmark event in women’s handball history, as for the first time ever 24 nations will participate in the tournament, making it the biggest ever women’s EURO! From 28 November to 15 December 2024, teams will compete in three countries, Austria, Hungary and Switzerland. Three countries with different cultures, united by a strong common love of handball. The logo of the tournament reflects this united spirit, with the colors of the three countries – red, white and green – coming together in a dynamic ball.

Golgotha Goes – El Greco’s Annunciation Arrives!

Golgotha, one of the pieces of the Munkácsy trilogy, is moving to Budapest, while El Greco’s Annunciation is moving to Debrecen.

To commemorate the 180th anniversary of Mihály Munkácsy’s birth, the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest is holding a major exhibition entitled Munkácsy – The Story of a World Success. The Déri Museum will contribute to the celebration by loaning Munkácsy’s Golgotha.

A weekend full of activities awaits us in Debrecen between 11 and 13 October. The Great Forest Week is in full swing to mark the 85th anniversary of the Great Forest of Debrecen becoming Hungary’s first nature conservation area. As part of the week-long series of events, there will be a full day of nature-related activities throughout the city on 12 October. In addition, there will be a Night of the Heroes in the Amusement Park, a Health Day in the Thermal Baths, Scandinavian Film Days in the Apollo Cinema, a Korean Cultural Day in Lovarda, a children’s flea market on Batthyány Street and a craft fair in the northern event area of the Nagyerdei Stadium.
