On 18 October, Debrecen’s creative workshops open their doors to the public, showcasing talented local artists who are shaping the creative energies of the city. With craft workshops, inspiring performances, workshops and concerts, the Night of Creative Spaces is waiting for everyone.

In the chilly autumn weather, there’s nothing better than relaxing in the hot thermal waters or treating yourself to a refreshing sauna session. The Aquaticum SPA has exciting autumn programs for all ages to recharge your batteries for the winter.

Debrecen, known for centuries as a city of fairs, still preserves the memory of the old fairs. Although the traditional fairs are now held only twice a year, smaller and larger fairs pop up from time to time in different parts of the city. On the weekend of 21-22 September, Debrecen turns into fairground: on Saturday, there will be a church fair, a children’s flea market and a design fair, and on Sunday an antiques fair.

Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning actor visits the Csokonai National Theatre with his company. Tim Robbins and The Actors’ Gang will be guest performers for two nights in the Csokonai Theatre with their production of Topsy Turvy (Ramazuri), announced Dr. István Puskás, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen responsible for culture, and Dr. Szabolcs Mátyássy, Director of the Csokonai National Theatre Debrecen, at a press conference.

The Debreczen ZAMAT Festival 2024 will be held for the thirteenth time. This year again, renowned gastronomic experts will attend the festival. Zsolt Anger, József Bernáth, Gábor Krausz, Judit Stahl and Rozina Wossala will be here. The host of the event is Dani Sass!

For the first time, Zoo Debrecen 2024 will welcome visitors with a special series of events between 14 and 15 September 2024, bringing a slice of Asia to the heart of the Great Forest. The aim of the Chinese Autumn Festival and Panda Days is to give visitors a deeper insight into the natural wonders, cultural history and traditions of Asia, including China.

September is one of the most beautiful months of the year, as the weather still reminds us of summer, but nature starts to dress up in colorful autumn clothes. It’s a great time to go for long walks or bike rides in nature, to re-immerse yourself in vibrant cultural experiences, or to enjoy the flavors of autumn from the renewed restaurant menus or at a good food festival.

Hamburgers, steaks, barbecue, concerts, craft beers, demonstrations, performances, a national competition for the title of the country’s burger, and a steakhouse competition under the shady trees of the Great Forest Park! On 7 September Debrecen will once again be the burger capital of the country for one day.

In September, concert venues will reopen to host the best of the local and national classical and popular music scene for the coming weeks. The Magashegyi Underground, Ivan & The Parazol, András Lovasi, Péter Geszti, György Korda and Klári Balázs, Kowalsky meg a Vega, Elefánt and Esti Kornél will be in Debrecen, while the Kodály Philharmonics and the Kodály Choir will be performing jazz and tunes from the old times.

The Debrecen news portal Dehir visited Attila Katona, a veteran bicycle collector and restorer from Debrecen, in the spring of this year, and found a row of very special bikes in the yard of his family home. The specialist has transformed many of them from a very poor state to near-original condition with hard work.

The Hilton Garden Inn Debrecen City Centre debuted in Debrecen, marking the opening of the first Hilton hotel in the countryside in Hungary. The hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of Kálvin Square and features the city’s first sky-bar rooftop terrace.

Following the carnival week, the 3×3 World Championships will be held again on Debrecen’s main square between 24 August and 1 September. As last year, the arena on Kossuth Square will host three events in a row, with the U18 World Championship and the men’s and women’s professional teams’ cash prize tournaments.

There comes a night every year that puts animals in the spotlight. The last Friday in August will see our 13th annual Night at the Zoo, this time offering you a taste of Central and South America’s vast biological and cultural diversity through a unique array of summer evening events and activities from 19:00 to 23:00.
