The Vojtina Puppet Theater in Debrecen is a defining institution in the city’s cultural life, offering high-quality, diverse theatrical experiences primarily for children and young people.
The building located on Kálvin Square has two different types of performance spaces, which are suitable for hosting performances of different genres and scales.
The theater hall has a capacity of 224 seats and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. It has a built-in proscenium and a tiltable auditorium. The hall is unique in its high degree of versatility: the stage can be rearranged to the center of the space, and the movable and height-adjustable chairs allow for a variety of seating arrangements. Thanks to its state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, it is also suitable for large-scale productions with many performers and rich visuals. This is where larger-scale performances take place, offering the audience a complex theatrical experience.
In contrast, the Play Theater is a more intimate chamber hall on the first floor of the building, with a capacity of 50 people. Although difficult to access for people with limited mobility, its intimate space is ideal for appealing to the youngest age group. This is where nursery theater performances, ritual plays, dramatic productions, and theater education programs take place. The newly renovated technical facilities, the easily adaptable auditorium and stage, and the full-width projection screen all contribute to the Vojtina Puppet Theater’s ability to introduce children to the magical world of puppetry in an exciting way.
