Although Debrecen is a city in the lowlands, the towers of many buildings are open to visitors, offering a bird’s eye view of the city’s landscape. The west tower of the Reformed Great Church has a lookout, while the east tower houses an open fire observatory, due to open in autumn 2024. On the panoramic walkway between the two towers, you can enjoy the sunset in summer with a glass of wine in your hand, and in December, that is the best place to admire the magical festive decorations of the city center.

You can also climb the dome-less “truncated” tower of the Reformed Small Church, the oldest church in Debrecen, and look down on the city center from one of the highest points in the city. From the sky bar of the Hilton Hotel, you can enjoy a light cocktail and admire the city center from above, including the iconic Reformed Great Church and the College, while the Kölcsey Center’s rooftop terrace offers a cosy rooftop bar with panoramic views in summer.

The Nagyerdő, voted the most beautiful forest in Hungary, can be observed from a bird’s eye view from the 34-metre-high observation deck of the 110-year-old Nagyerdei Water Tower all year round, and from the sun terrace of the central building of the Aquaticum Strand in summer.
