Beach season 2023 has started in Debrecen

Aquaticum Debrecen Strand opened on 27th of May, by Mayor of Debrecen László Papp, Managing Director of Aquaticum Debrecen Kft Lajos Fazekas, Tourism Director of VisitDebrecen Enikő Tóth-Megyesi and Member of the Municipality of Debrecen Tamás Majer.

As László Papp said, he is very proud of one of the most striking developments in Debrecen in recent years, the Aquaticum Debrecen Strand, which is the result of a joint effort with the spa, the property manager, the designers, contractors and all those who gave ideas on how the facility should look. It has won international architectural awards, it has become more and more popular since its opening, and more and more people visit it – last year it attracted nearly 200,000 visitors. “We can be proud of it in every respect – I consider the Aquaticum Debrecen Strand to be the most beautiful beach in Hungary,” the mayor said. He added that this year May was not full of beach-time weather, which is why the facility is opening later, but they hope that from now on, it will be sunny and bright until the end of the season.

Debrecen had a good year in terms of tourism last year. In 2022, the tourism market in Debrecen grew by 9 per cent compared to 2019 – the last peak year before the coronavirus epidemic. This success is also reflected in the fact that hotel developments were launched during the epidemic’s most difficult period. “All in all, the picture is very positive, the beach is in beautiful condition, the spa is a very good owner of the beach, and we are fully prepared to welcome those who want to relax and have fun, families, young people, the elderly, everyone,” László Papp said.

As for the ticket prices, Lajos Fazekas said that the discounts for the Debrecen City Card start at 15 percent, but if you buy ten tickets with the City Card, for example, the discount per session is almost 34 percent, which means that the ticket costs HUF 3, 600 per session compared to the normal ticket price of HUF 5,400. According to Lajos Fazekas, this is a very substantial discount.

The manager pointed out that the ticket price includes the possibility of using all the water services on the beach area – the slides, the children’s world – and the use of the changing rooms. Swimmers are welcome from 6 a.m. onwards and can use the beach until 8:30 a.m. with a swimming pass.

The normal opening time is 9 a.m., and closing time is 7 p.m., but the opening hours are always extended on hot days.

A service innovation at the beach is increasing the number of catering outlets and creating a separate waste collection point based on visitor demand.

Enikő Tóth-Megyesi, tourism director of VisitDebrecen, talked about what the city offers visitors this year.

Member of the Municipality of Debrecen Tamás Majer expressed the hope that not only the people of Debrecen will feel that the beach and the Great Forest are their own and special but that more and more people from all over the country will visit Debrecen, curious about the programmes, attractions and sights to be seen here.
