Announcing Wines of Debrecen 2022

The winners of the annual competition have been announced. Their goal is to raise awareness of Debrecen as a wine hub and destination, providing easy access to the Hungarian wineries and the fantastic wines they produce.

Debrecen promotes Hungarian wine culture proactively, one of the most significant ways it does this is through the wine events and competitions the city holds. Since 2015 has held the Wines of Debrecen annual award, awarding the title of Wines of Debrecen to the winners.

Wines of Debrecen Selection 2022

On 4th February 2022, VisitDebrecen organised the wine judging for this year’s award, which was open to the press and attended by wine academics, winemakers and sommeliers. The first round of wine testing was carried out last year by the Debrecen Wine Tasting Panel of winemakers and wine experts, judging 426 wines from 86 wineries in 15 wine regions. Based on the results of the first round of judging, the wineries with the highest scores were invited to the next round, – the wine competition to decide the title of Debrecen City Wine 2022.

The Wines of Debrecen 2022 was awarded to a full range of wines, i.e. in seven categories,

  • Sparkling,
  • Classic white and
  • Classic red,
  • Rosé,
  • Premium white and
  • Premium red and

The Debrecen City Wine label is a real prestige because it guarantees that the consumer will experience wine from among the best, and get to know the unique value of Hungarian wine-growing areas, the special wine experience, and the Hungarian wine culture.
