Children’s Day with the 140-year-old Zsuzsi Forest Railway

The country’s oldest narrow-gauge railway, the “Zsuzsi”, will celebrate its 140th birthday in 2022. On the last Sunday of May, the railway will supply a programme of activities for children to celebrate the anniversary. So it’s worth hopping on the train on 29 May, Children’s Day, and spending your free time in the lush green Hármashegyi forest, where the Zsuzsi offers great activities and a beautiful forest environment and fresh air.

One of the most popular annual events of the Zsuzsi Forest Railway, which celebrates its 140th birthday in 2022, is Children’s Day at Hármashegyalján. This year the event offers a colourful programme of activities for children, in whose honor the 99-year-old nostalgia steamer will once again run on the day. Upon arrival, the Three Hills will host an interactive children’s music concert, Latin American and standard dance, Zumba, belly dancing and country music performances, a candy shower, a bouncy castle, a police dog show, and fun creative activities for younger children. Of course, the Bird School will also be present with birds, popular with children and adults alike, with whom you can take part in an interactive presentation and a photo session. Suzy and PancsPancs, the two entertaining characters from the Wheelhouse Experience Park, will also be there to provide fun with their comedy shows and rhythm and dance classes.

For the Children’s Day programme on 29th May, the steam-powered nostalgia train will depart from the starting station at Ruyter Street at 10 am and return to Debrecen from Hármashegyalja at 10 pm.

The Children’s Day programme is free of charge for everyone, in addition to the fare. Children arriving by train can enjoy free face painting and balloon clowns.

Individual fares apply for the steam-powered nostalgia train. For information on fares, please visit
