Debrecen is waiting for you with great experiences in September!

September is one of the most beautiful months of the year, as the weather still reminds us of summer, but nature starts to dress up in colorful autumn clothes. It’s a great time to go for long walks or bike rides in nature, to re-immerse yourself in vibrant cultural experiences, or to enjoy the flavors of autumn from the renewed restaurant menus or at a good food festival.

5+1 things to do in Debrecen in September.

1. Wander the intimate forest walks of the Great Forest, chosen as Hungary’s most beautiful forest, picnic in the grass under the giant oak trees in the company of mallards, or sit on a bench in the park with a book and immerse yourself in literature in the embrace of nature.

2. Taste the flavors of autumn from the renewed restaurant menus or indulge in culinary delights at the Zamat Festival between 13-15 September, where, alongside tasting juicy Debrecen double sausages and fruity pálinkas, you can meet popular star chefs and performers from József Bernáth to Judit Stahl, Péter Geszti to Kowalsky és a Vega.

3. Meet Oscar and Golden Globe-winning American actor Tim Robbins and his company, who will be performing Topsy Turvy for two nights in September – 18 and 19 September – at Csokonai Teátrum.

4. After New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the world-renowned Turkish media artist Refik Anadol made his debut at MODEM in Debrecen, where his large-scale video installation Rumi Dreams is a real cultural treat and will be on show until 29 September.

5. If you’re crying for summer to return, take advantage of the first week of September, when you can still splash around at Aquaticum Strand at a discounted price. For the rest of the autumn, soak up the summer atmosphere in the tropical surroundings of the Aquaticum Mediterranean Indoor Aquapark. On cooler days, head to the Thermal Baths for a soak in the warm thermal waters.

+1 Take advantage of nice autumn days and go explore Debrecen on foot! Roaming among the spectacular merchants’ houses and palaces of Piac Street, the romantic cívis houses lining the winding streets of the old town and the turn-of-the-century villas of the Nagyerdő, you’ll discover Debrecen’s unique dimension. If the walk has piqued your curiosity, the Déri Museum and the Reformed College Museum have interesting exhibitions to tell you more about the city.
