FestiWine, a wine festival in downtown Debrecen

The festival, known as the Downtown Wine Festival since its inception in 2018, will be held in Debrecen between the 8th and 10th of June, 2023, under the name of FestiWine.

Diána Széles, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, and Bence Sipos Sipos, owner of the DiVino wine bar, gave a presentation on the event on 31st of May 2023.

As Diána Széles said, thanks are due to local entrepreneurs who make the town’s tourist season more lively with events like this, which are becoming international in scope, and not just as a weekend event. The Municipality of Debrecen supports these initiatives. The start of FestiWine on Thursday will enable visitors to spend several days in the city as tourists, practically a long weekend. FestiWine, which focuses on the wines of young Hungarian winemakers and others in a patina-like downtown setting, complements the city’s now traditional summer launch events such as the Debrecziner Gourmet Festival or the Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days.

According to Bence Sipos, the wine festival aimed to create a gastro-cultural event to provide a platform for quality wine culture and consumption. They thought that jazz and modern swing music would suit this and a unique and intimate venue. This is now traditionally the square in front of the Déri Museum. This year’s FestiWine will feature wines from all the wineries that play a significant role in Hungarian wine culture and the products of the young winemakers mentioned above. Bence Sipos also said that they have tried to organise as demanding as possible accompanying programmes. Still, at the same time, they have not increased the price of the tickets compared to last year, which also includes a glass of wine with the event logo. In addition to renowned acts such as Budapest Bar with András Lovasi or Parno Graszt, there will also be a platform for up-and-coming Debrecen bands. This year – for the second time – the event’s main sponsor is Telekom.

And based on previous experiences, to make this event a family event, too, on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12. Free children’s activities – a band, balloon clown, face painting, glitter painting, caricature artist, and craft activities – are also available until 3 p.m.
