Zoltán Mága’s 50 years 50 concerts series of charity concerts is coming to Debrecen soon.

The renowned violinist will give a free concert on Kossuth Square on 1 June together with star guests such as Gyula Bodrogi, Cecília Esztergályos, Ági Voith, Sándor Csikos, Gábor Koncz, Margit Bangó, Eszter Sümegi, Levente Molnár and Jennifer Mága.

Debrecen Drive, Hungary’s biggest automotive show, is back on the last weekend of May.

Between 24-26 May, 800 different vehicles, pedal cars and new saloon cars will move into the heart of the Nagyerdő. The event will feature no less than 50,000 square metres of curiosities. You will be able to admire at close quarters various veteran cars, military and public service vehicles, motorbikes, bicycles, trucks, luxury and sports cars, as well as family activities, car and motorbike shows, celebrity guests and a celebrity race. On the eve of the festival, the popular Night Drive will offer breathtaking stunts.

Debrecen’s museums, tourist attractions, cultural and recreational institutions await visitors with festive opening hours during the long weekend between 18 and 20 May.

After the success of the women’s handball team, the Hungarian national teams can compete in another sport in Debrecen, as the 3×3 world elite will compete for the Olympic title in the arena on Kossuth Square between 16 and 19 May.

This year, the Con Spirito Church Music Festival will take place between 19 and 26 May, offering a fantastic program of events for the music-loving public. The name of the festival, “Con Spirito” – meaning “with spirit” – refers not only to the way the music is performed, but also to the spirituality of the religion, which, through the inner love of the community, fills and enchants the days of Pentecost year after year, alongside the festival’s prestigious and outstanding concerts.

Debrecen, known for centuries as a city of fairs, still preserves and cherishes the memory of the old fairs. Twice a year, around Mihály Day, a national fair is held in the city, with hundreds of vendors offering their wares. The spring fair will be held on 11-12 May in and around Böszörményi Street. The range of goods on offer will be as varied as ever, from clothes to technical goods, but of course there will also be traditional handicrafts and food specialities.

The next stop of the ALL IN Debrecen – International Cultural Days series will be the Debrecen Jewish Cultural Days and Street Festival between the 9th and 12th of May. Margit Bangó, Péter Gerendás and the Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band, among others, will perform at the four-day meeting organized around the synagogue of Pásti Street in Debrecen. Exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and studio visits will celebrate local fine art, photography and visual art education in Debrecen, in parallel and in line with the 33rd Debrecen Spring Art Fair, from 9 to 12 May. The details of the initiative, which is a collaboration between the Debrecen municipality, art exhibition venues, associations, art schools and private individuals, were presented at a press conference at MODEM on Monday, 15 April 2024.

Every year on the Saturday of Pentecost, the National Herders’ Competition and Shepherd’ Meeting is held in Hortobágy, for the 28th time this year, on 28 May 2024 in the Puszta Animal Park. The event will bring herders from all over Hungary to show off their skills to the public on Saturday, after the qualifying rounds on Friday.

By presenting cord documents and contemporary artworks borrowed from the collections of the Reformed College of Debrecen and the Alföldi Printing House, Makropædia attempts to provide a reflective overview of the role of the book in our culture.
