Program tips in case of bad weather

In Debrecen, don’t be alarmed if bad weather throws a spanner in the works, as there are plenty of activities to choose from, which can be enjoyed indoors. From museum visit to church tours, cinema or wellness, there’s something for everyone.

  • A visit to a museum is a great way to spend a day, be that in winter or summer, rain or shine. In the permanent exhibitions of Déri Museum and the Museum of Reformed College, you can learn about Debrecen’s past and heritage, wander through the land of the pyramids or even sit in the benches of an old classroom. Explore the exciting world of modern and contemporary art in the MODEM exhibitions.
  • The best cure for lethargy caused by bad weather is wellness. The bath complex Aquaticum SPA offers a tropical indoor adventure pool, thermal pools of various temperatures, relaxing wellness treatments and themed sauna sessions. On weekends, there are also regular night baths, family days, spiritual and sauna programs.
  • Debrecen’s oldest cinema, Apolló mozi has been a mecca for movie fans in our city center for more than 100 years. In the intimate atmosphere of the recently redecorated cinema, you can watch shows of blockbusters or arthouse films. Thus, whether you are out for romance, a good laugh or a thought-provoking experience, you will certainly find it on offer.
  • The pastry shops and cafés of Debrecen offer unforgettable flavors all over the city. Trying traditional and new wave sweets to colorful macarons, you can imagine that you are in Japan in the shade of cherry trees or sitting behind a café window, enjoying a freshly roasted coffee and admiring the beautiful downtown buildings.
  • Just like it is the case in the world’s largest and most popular stadiums, Debrecen also offers a behind-the-scenes look at Nagyerdei Stadium. By taking the tour, you can peek at the less open but more exciting areas of the stadium, such as the changing rooms, the training rooms, the press conference venue, the exclusive sky boxes, and also get a close-up view of the most valuable part of the stadium, the pitch.
  • One of the most beautiful public buildings in Debrecen is Csokonai Theater, which is worth admiring not only from the outside, but also from the inside, as the romantic interior is immediately enchanting. The theater, which has five different stages, offers productions of classical and contemporary plays, musicals, literary evenings and children’s performances, making it an ideal venue — not only in bad weather. If you are curious about what happens behind the scenes, you can also sign up for a guided tour of the theater.
