The Farmer Expo will be held in Debrecen

In recent years the Farmer Expo has grown, initially, this year it was planned to house 300 exhibitors and to include 17,000 square meters of fair space located on the Böszörményi út Campus of the University of Debrecen.

For epidemiological reasons, the organizers did not invite exhibitors from across the border, due to concerns over the official protocol at the border due to the pandemic.

This year it is expected that there will be more than 500 people in the fairgrounds at any given time, but the visitors will be spread over about a total of 50,000 square meters.

The event will be opened by Minister of Agriculture István Nagy who will talk about how the remaining EU funds will be used at the end of the planning period, and what support farmers can expect this year. He will also talk about the Minister’s vision for the future of the sector and the upcoming development resources in its agricultural chapters.

While the animal shows have been cancelled, the animal show pavilions will instead be filled with professional forums with a maximum of 100 participants.

The three topics that most concern pig farmers are on the agenda:

  • The effects and treatment of ASP (African swine fever);
  • The world market affected by ASP; development resources and vision in the sector.
  • Cattle keepers discuss the situation on the dairy market and the meat market, as well as support options. In the case of poultry, the market anomalies caused by avian influenza and the ways of recovering from it will be in focus, and of course,

The development of subsidies in favor of the sector is also an evergreen topic.

The stands will be based on outdoor venues and exhibitors will also have access to the recently handed over university campus facilities equipped with state-of-the-art air exchange technology.

The new animal showroom has also been completed and it will be used as a temporary stage. The Bread Festival will be organized here.

The horse carriage driving master class will be held by world driving champion József Dobrovitz for amateurs.

Disinfection points will be set up in the fair area and hand-washing facilities will be provided for visitors in several places. The organizers also ordered 24 thousand masks.

The 29th Farmer Expo will be organized between the 18th – 21st August at the Böszörményi út Campus of the University of Debrecen.
