The history of the Tiszafüred Fish Days goes back more than four decades. The first fish “folk festival” was organised in 1978 with the aim of bringing Tiszafüred and the surrounding villages together. The organisers were keen to ensure that the event’s programme both respected and made the most of the beautiful natural surroundings. Gastronomy deserves a special chapter in the history of the Fish Days, as the whole series of events is based on the tradition of preparing fish dishes and the Tisza fish soup, which was declared a Hungaricum in 2017 on the initiative of Tiszafüred. The region’s largest traditional, gastronomic, cultural, and tourist event will be held over four days from 7th to 10th July. This year the City of Debrecen is the guest of honour of the event.

Fish lovers – who are not only good at eating fish but also at preparing it – can compete for the title of Tisza Fish Dishes Festival cooking competition champion again this year. Once again, the best ingredients will be provided by Tisza Lake Sportfishing Ltd., participants will only need their favourite cooking pot and the necessary seasoning.
