The German premium airline will fly to the Bavarian capital four times a week from 29th May.
These Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft will operate between Germany’s third-largest city and Debrecen, the first direct scheduled flight from Munich to Munich having started in April 2016. The operators were satisfied with the load factors of the planes, but the pandemic intervened and Lufthansa cancelled this otherwise successful flight.
Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has, of course, removed the flight from our schedule, but Lufthansa has also made an effort to reestablish flights from the best and well-operated airports as soon as possible, of course. Now is the time to finally do so,” said János Vajda, managing director of Debrecen International Airport Kft.
So from 29th May, the 90-seat aircraft will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The timetable of these flights will make Munich a stopover point for many of the world’s favourite destinations. Bookings are already good, with over 50 percent of flights currently full. János Vajda added:
“the airport currently employs almost 150 people, which ensures a high level of service for passengers visiting the airport. Staff shortages do not affect their operations.
We have already taken care in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic that the people who are helping us to get the airport back up and running and to keep security at the highest level, we have of course employed them, so I see that we obviously have a minimal advantage in this situation,” the CEO said.
Passenger traffic is expected to increase, as this year’s holiday flights are more than ever before. Three tour operators are operating charter flights from Debrecen to the Turkish Riviera. The island of Zakynthos in Greece is again accessible by air. Wizz Air has already launched a scheduled flight to Cyprus, Corfu and Burgas have recently been announced, and flights to Mallorca will be launched soon. In addition to Tel Aviv, city breaks are also possible with Wizz Air to London, Paris, Eindhoven, or even Brussels.
