On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Hungarian National Anthem and the Day of Hungarian Culture, events are also organized in Debrecen.
The famous Hungarian poet Ferenc Kölcsey completed the manuscript of the Hungarian National Anthem on this day in 1823. This date is a celebration of Hungarian culture, which has been held every year since 1989, both in Hungary and abroad. 22nd of January 2023 is also a special anniversary because the National Anthem was written exactly 200 years ago.
This year, the National Day of Hungarian Culture focuses on the legacy of the poet Ferenc Kölcsey and the Hungarian National Anthem.

18th-22nd January 2023: Déri Museum
An exhibition of the original will of Ferenc Kölcsey will take place in the Historical Gallery of the Déri Museum.
19th January 2023: New Town Hall – Csokonai Fórum
At 4:00 p.m., an exhibition on the 10th anniversary of the Debrecen Treasury can be seen in the New Town Hall (Kálvin Square 11), while Lajos Bertók’s play entitled “On the Edge of Ecstasy” can be seen in the Csokonai Fórum at 6:00 p.m
20th January 2023: Reformed Great Church – Déri Museum – Csokonai Fórum
The musical, literary journey of poet János Lackfi and singer and violinist Edina Mókus Szirtes can be seen at 1:00 p.m at the Reformed Great Church, while János Lackfi’s family poetry afternoon entitled “My father’s cock” starts at 5 o’clock at Karakter 1517 Bookstore and Cafe.
The Debrecen Cultural Award ceremony will take place in the Déri Museum’s Banquet Hall at 3 p.m., while the presentation of the Csokonai Youth Program for primary school teachers will also begin at 3 p.m. at the Csokonai Forum.
21st January 2023: DEMKI – Csokonai Fórum – Reformed College – Sziget-kék
The opening of the exhibition of poet and painter Judit Orgoványi starts at 11 a.m. at the DEMKI Debrecen Cultural and Youth Center (Simonffy street 21), while at 12 p.m. the #madáchkétszáz open rehearsal can be seen at the Csokonai Fórum.
The opening of the National Anthem and Kölcsey Memorial Days in Debrecen will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Reformed College of Debrecen (Kálvin tér 16), and the wreath-laying of the Kölcsey relief will take place.
The opening of the exhibition entitled “Ferenc Kölcsey’s student years in Debrecen” will take place at 2:15 p.m., and the commemoration will take place at 3 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Debrecen Reformed College to celebrate the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the National Anthem.
The opening of the joint exhibition of the Sziget-kék theme park and the House of Debrecen Literature entitled “Elefántfogó” will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Sziget-kék theme park.
At 7:00 p.m., the evening of Zsolt Bogdán and Sándor Kányádi of the Kaláka Ensemble can be seen in the Csokonai Fórum entitled “There are regions.”
22 January 2023: Reformed Great Church – Karakter 1517 Bookstore and Cafe
At 10:00 a.m., a Festive Service will take place in the Reformed Great Church, while at 11:15, a wreath will be laid on the statue of Ferenc Kölcsey on Péterfia Street.
At 3:00 p.m., the exhibition of photographer István Tóth from Oradea opens in the Bényi Gallery (Kölcsey Center), while those interested can take part in a discussion with well-known athletes and famous people at 4:00 p.m in Karakter 1517 Bookstore and Café.
23 January 2023: Péter Méliusz Juhász Library
A thematic exhibition of books related to the National Anthem, Kölcsey, and the Day of Hungarian Culture can be seen in the Péter Méliusz Juhász Library.
24 January 2023: Déri Museum – DEMKI (Józsa)
At 2 p.m., the exhibition entitled “Réunion – Anatomy of an Island” will be shown with the curator Szilveszter Mező in Déri Museum, while at 3 p.m., a fine art exhibition can be seen at the DEMKI community center in Józsa, based on the collection of Dr. András Kiss. (Szentgyörgyfalvi Road 9.).
