The Debrecen Jazz Days has been held every year, without interruption since 1972. This year will be no exception, It will be organized from 15th to 22nd August for the 49th time. The event will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days is a social event with wines and music taking place in the Great Forest. The event contributes to the improvement of the quality of life for citizens by strengthening the good practice of cultured wine and listening to great music.
Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the Great Forest each year. The event is constantly evolving in terms of both quality and attendance and it is also at the forefront of the Hungarian gastro-cultural program offer. In 2019, the Wine and Jazz Days won the title of “Qualified Festival” for three years from the Hungarian Festival Association.
This year, the festival will be able to taste the wines of 32 wineries from 15 wine regions, and choose from more than 250 wines:
In addition to these fine wines, the award-winning wines from the Wines of Debrecen competition held earlier this year can be experienced. Those wineries include Szőke, Mészáros, Takler, Koch, Holdvölgy, Gróf Dégenfeld.
Participants can listen to the performance of young jazz groups, but in addition to jazz, the guitar will also be in focus this year. During the event, 151 Hungarian jazz musicians (including 27 guitarists) will take the stage in 36 different groups (see below). In the position of Artist in Residence, István Gyárfás takes to the stage no less than four times.
The program is compiled by jazz expert Róbert Maloschik, artistic director of the festival, editor-in-chief of jazzma.hu. The Hungarian Radio will record the concerts of the festival again this year, broadcast the recordings and make them available.
This year the event is free to attend.
