Free guided tours on World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day, celebrated each year on 27 September, is the global observance day fostering awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value. On this special day, Debrecen’s tourism marketing agency, VisitDebrecen offers free guided tours both in Hungarian and English for those who would like to explore the hidden gems of Debrecen’s historic city center.

Wandering on the streets of the historic city center, participants can learn interesting details about Debrecen’s cultural and built heritage, for example the stories behind the awe-inspiring trade houses and palaces of the main street, and the brand-new mural paintings. They can also find answer to questions like how Debrecen could protect itself throughout the centuries without a city wall or where and why a bridge was built in the city that has no river.

The tour ends at the oldest church of Debrecen, the Reformed Small Church where visitors can climb the fire tower opened recently to the public after 300 years and admire the amazing panorama of the city center from the top.

Participation is free of charge. The tours start in front of the Tourinform office (20 Piac utca).
