Great Forest Week

The Great Forest of Debrecen is of great importance to all its inhabitants. The forest is the lungs of the civic city, and a place of recreation, relaxation, and sport, – these are the basic components of its historical identity.

In our national culture, the Great Forest has immeasurable value and is an icon of Debrecen, just as the Great Reformed Church does.

The Great Forest of Debrecen was declared protected 81 years ago, on October 10, 1939, and at the time it was the first registered in the Hungarian Conservation of Nature Pedigree.

The protection of nature and the environment, the protection of a healthy lifestyle, the harmonious coexistence of human life, and the living world are attributed more and more importance these days.

This is why the Great Forest Week initiative aims to bring the city’s residents and the forest closer once again.

The Great Forest Week offers a multitude of programs for young and old from September 28th to October 4th: guided tours, running races, bike tours, workshops, cultural programs, craft classes, creative competitions, and many other surprises await visitors to the Great Forest this week!
