With the onset of autumn, the cranes arrive in the Hortobágy. The most wonderful natural event of the season is the crane migration. The crane is the symbol of the Hortobágy National Park and one of our most treasured natural assets. To see the daily movement of tens of thousands of cranes, the Hortobágy National Park Directorate organises various weekend tours from mid-September until the end of October.
Participation in the programme is by registration only. Registration is possible only by filling in this google form. When registering, please check your details carefully, so that they can contact you if there are any programme changes.
Note: For the tours you need your own car and that groups of more than 20 people are not accepted on weekends, so please enquire about weekday times only.
Please adhere to the following requirements.
Driving Rules: wear clothing appropriate to the field environment and avoid bright colours. Flashes are NOT allowed. Please avoid being loud!
Recommended Equipment: hand binoculars, camera, layered clothing, comfortable shoes, mosquito repellent.
Tours will be held even in case of poor weather! In such cases, it is recommended to choose a raincoat or umbrella and clothing suitable for the terrain.
Tours are for a minimum of 10 people!
If a group is already full, please indicate this on this page in the entry of the tour of the day! If new possibilities arise (different tour types, new tour dates), we will also announce them on this page!
The experience of observing nature is the magic of the moment, changing from occasion to occasion. Please note that this is not a pre-staged theatrical production, it is nature itself that is the actor, however, the guides do their best to ensure that the experience is a memorable one.
