A vibrant cultural life will move into the heart of Debrecen between 19 June and 26 July 2025. A busy spot in the city center, at the corner of Rózsa Street and Piac Street, will be the venue for the free Belváros – Szeretem (“City Center – I love it”)! For five weeks, the new initiative will offer people of all ages a taste of the city’s musical, dance and community assets.
The city center is alive in the summer, as anyone who visited the corner of Piac Street and Rózsa Street on Tuesday afternoon could see. The brass section of Zenede and the students of Valcer Dance Studio gave a taste of their performances at the information session for the new summer program “City Center – I love it!”. The five-week event series is a collaboration between Cívis House, Főnix Events and the city to create a new community experience in the heart of the city.
– We have always dreamed of Debrecen becoming a city where the city center is alive in the evening, alive at night, and where we don’t just come to do our business, but also to spend our free time, to live our community life, to spend our free time. Simply to be together, friends, families,” said Deputy Mayor István Puskás.
The series of events will start on 19 June, offering cultural activities twice a week – on Thursdays and Saturdays – in the city center. It is not intended to be a mass event: they want to create a family atmosphere and strengthen small communities. Edit Erdei, CEO of Cívis Ház Zrt., emphasized at the briefing the involvement and flexibility of the local shops, which are also preparing special offers for the five-week period. “It is fundamental to the operation of Cívis Ház that it works with the tenants, and I would like to thank them for their involvement, both in providing food and discounts for the performers and for the people who pass by. One more thing that is important for the downtown, maybe with Covid, we have seen how important it has become in hospitality, being on the terrace, a basic instinct and need for all of us,” said Edit Erdei.
As a result of an exemplary collaboration, at least 40 performers will alternate in the city center, with cultural offerings for all ages, from familiar bands to carnival-style dancers.
– A major factor in the thinking of the Főnix Event Organiser and the way the program is put together is the number of partners, institutions, groups and NGOs with which we can connect. We are extremely grateful for this, because it is in this cooperation and in standing up for causes that the kind of strength that can be demonstrated here 40 times over will be found – said Zita Dobos, Managing Director of the Főnix Event Organiser.
The “City Center – I love it!” series of events will offer quality activities for visitors to the city centre until 26 July.
