John Malkovich, the main character of the HBO series The New Pope, has played in countless movies including “Death of a Salesman Biff Loman”, “Of Mice and Men” and “Dangerous Liaisons”.
The performance titled “The Music Critic” is a mix of a play and a concert. The greatest composers, world-renowned musicians, are criticized with humor, and by John Malkovich, the music critic.
Schumann imagines himself as a “composer” and Brahms as a “talentless bastard.” Meanwhile, Claude Debussy is just horrible to listen to, at least according to John Malkovich, the music critic.
John Malkovich hides in the critical skin of evil to convince us that Beethoven, Chopin, Prokofiev and their associates are both tired and unhappy. Aleksey Igudesman and other great musicians are eager to contradict this attack. In the closing scene, Malkovich is then put on the “torture bench”; with criticism of Malkovich himself.
John Malkovich and the “The Music Critic” will be performing at the Kölcsey Center on 10th of March 2020. Hungarian subtitles are also provided.
