Debrecen Zoo opened in 1958 in Debrecen’s Big Forest as the first zoo outside the capital. Today, the complex is the home of Debrecen Zoo, a plant collection, and a theme park.
The zoo is connected with the theme park by a narrow-gauge railway that runs through the surrounding forest passing by the housing of sheep, goats and donkeys and dodgems as well as a roller coaster.
On display are some 700 specimens of 160 species native to various habitats of five continents. Watch the animals feed, or join the many exciting programs. Open from May to late September, the theme park features 17 rides as well as the smallest Ferris wheel in the country.
