Agóra Programs Beginning in March

How much fresh water can be used by humans on Earth? What kind of creatures live in a drop of water? What makes a lake pink? These questions can also be answered by anyone who follows the programs of the Agóra Science Experience CenterOn the occasion of World Water Day (March 22nd), our most important natural resource is in the spotlight in the Agora in March. There are many other programmes taking place in March, see below.

Family activities in the DigIspace

Saturday 5th March 2022, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Have you ever met a humanoid robot? Have you ever petted a robot dog? Do you know what makes a home “smart”? On Saturdays, the DigITér Debrecen Digital Experience Centre offers a range of activities for families and groups of friends to learn about the latest achievements in IT. During the one-and-a-half-hour interactive session, you will also have the opportunity to try out some of the devices.

DigITér is located on the first floor of the Agora Science Experience Centre. The Digital Centre’s programmes are free of charge but are only open to visitors with prior registration – and confirmation.

Sunday Science: Masters of a Lost World

Sunday 6th March 2022 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

A series of educational activities on Sundays, with exciting scientific adventures for children. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the mysteries of different scientific disciplines in one-hour sessions.

Are all dinosaurs dinosaurs, or are all dinosaurs dinosaurs dinosaurs? Which are the best-known species? What are the smallest and largest known reptiles? How did these animals live and what did they eat? This Sunday, Agora invites children on a journey through time.

Recommended age: 8-12 years

The programme is open to all with a ticket to the Agora. The number of visitors is limited, so it is advisable to register in advance. Advance registrations are welcome at regisztracio@agoradebrecen.hu. The one-hour session will start at exactly 10:30 am, gathering in the reception area.

Creative science: what can air do?

Saturday 12th March 2022 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

On the second Saturday of every month, children can learn about scientific phenomena through interesting creative activities and make their own toys to take home.

On this Saturday, children can make a simple four-wheeled vehicle that runs on air, not petrol or diesel. There will also be simple aerodynamic experiments. Just bear with us!

You can participate with a ticket to the Agora. Children can join in at any time during the one-and-a-half-hour session with parental supervision.

Location: interactive space, minimum age: 5 years

Sunday Science

Sunday 13th March 2022, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

A series of educational activities will take children on exciting science adventures on Sundays. The one to hour sessions will give participants an insight into the mysteries of different scientific disciplines.

Once again, children can experiment with strange materials that look like space intestines, which seem to defy the laws of physics, being both solid and liquid. In the chemistry lab, they’ll be making squeezable, shape-shifting stress balls and all sorts of sticky things, and playing with starch, flour, and rice.

Recommended age: 6 to 10 years

The programme is open to children aged 6 to 6 years. The number of visitors is limited, so it is advisable to register in advance. Advance registrations are welcome at regisztracio@agoradebrecen.hu. The one to hour session will start at exactly 10:30 am, gathering in the reception area.

Water Days at the Agora

19th to 20th March 2022.

Why is the Earth “blue”? How much water do we actually use in a day? How is a “water tornado” created? How can water be made to work and what special animals live at the bottom of the oceans? to mark World Water Day this March, water will be the main theme at the World Water Centre. Agora’s special programmes will show how much fresh water is available for human use on Earth and how some creatures can survive in desert conditions, as well as what parrotfish are, where barracuda live, and whether fish use stairs.

A series of educational activities on Sundays will take children on exciting scientific adventures. The one to hour sessions will give participants an insight into the mysteries of different scientific disciplines.

Can you tell the difference between a beaver and an otter? Should we be afraid of the water snake? Does the reed bull have wings? Is there a species of turtle native to our country? How do beavers communicate when they feel threatened? In this session, children will learn about the animals that live on the water.

Recommended age: 6 to 10 years

On Sundays, children can enjoy exciting scientific adventures in the framework of a series of educational activities. The one to hour sessions will give participants an insight into the mysteries of different scientific disciplines.

Have you ever built a flying bee out of Lego? Do you know how bees communicate and why they are needed? Have you ever wondered what makes honey colour or why pollen sticks to bees? Kids can get answers to these questions and get a taste of robotics with LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0!

Recommended age: 6 to 10 years

The programme is open to children from 6 to 10 years old. The Agora can only accept a limited number of visitors, so it is advisable to register in advance.
