Autumn Festival of Museums

In Hungary, Nearly 130 museums will join the 16th Autumn Festival of Museums nationwide from September 27th to November 11th, with more than 600 different programs and a total of nearly 1,200 events. The rich program of the series of events will take place in the spirit of the Museum Harmony motto, which of course was joined this year by the Déri Museum in Debrecen.

Most of the specially organized events are free to attend for students in Hungary but are equally interesting for visitors to Debrecen.

Déri Museum at the Autumn Festival of Museums:

Walk, walk, bike with us! – Friday 8th October 2021 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Tragedy and opportunity. For Debrecen, Trianon meant both at the same time. The Déri Museum’s periodical exhibition BORDERS LINE evokes many local memories and events from this period. During the nearly one-and-a-half-hour city walk connected to the exhibition, the participants can look at the well-known and lesser-known venues of Debrecen from a new perspective under the guidance of the curator of the exhibition. The Trianon Memorial Tour ends in front of the Déri Museum on Déri Square.

Sherlock and Poirot in antiquity?

Families can learn about Egypt’s fabulous treasures during the fall break at the Déri Museum. During the ample one-hour program, young and old can discover – in a playful way – the exotic world of antiquity together. The success of the special adventure depends on the items of the backpack available at the checkout, wooden chest, hieroglyph ruler, magnifying glass, collapsible template of the mummy sarcophagus, etc. they help.

Ferenc Medgyessy Memorial Exhibition

Rethinking
From 27th September to 11th November 2021.
The program is free to attend.

The sculptor Ferenc Medgyessy, from Debrecen, was born one hundred and forty years ago. The anniversary is a great opportunity for the students of the art grammar school in the city to commemorate the namesake of their school. They will be assisted by Éva Irén Fodor, art historian of the Déri Museum and curator of the Ferenc Medgyessy Memorial Exhibition. The unusual dialogue between the pieces of a sealed oeuvre and the students at the beginning of their careers promises a special experience.

As part of the program series, students will be guided to the Ferenc Medgyessy Memorial Exhibition on Wednesdays for seven weeks.

Medgyessy Memorial Museum

The focus is on the László Holló Memorial House from
September 27th to November 11th, 2021.
The program is free to attend.

The painter, Simon Hollósy was born in Kiskunfélegyháza but came to Debrecen from his art colony in Técs, where he found a home in the Hrabéczy villa in Tócóvölgy. Most of his artworks were also born here.
Nowadays, there is a lively creative work among the works of the oeuvre exhibition held in his former home. Students of the Ferenc Medgyessy Art High School learn the basics of painting here in an inspiring environment, many artists of today began their studies here. On the occasion of the Autumn Festival of Museums, the exhibited works will be presented on Thursdays for seven weeks.

Motifs of music and dance in the art of Ferenc Medgyessy

The Déri Museum commemorates Ferenc Medgyessy with a lecture and film screening on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the artist’s birth. One of the sculptor’s most popular motifs is his depiction of music and dance, as evidenced by several works in the museum’s collection. Medgyessy himself was a prominent supporter of modern dance pedagogical movements. He maintained a friendly relationship with the dancer Olga Szentpál, who herself commissioned a work from the sculptor. The present performance presents the history of the 1927 Dancers relief, but also the history of many drawings and sculptures. The artist himself stated of his works: “first the drawing is born, the drawing becomes the relief and the relief the sculpture. The relief is a convex drawing or a single-plane sculpture. ” After the presentation Basilides Ábris About My Life,
