The popular Hungarian tourism portal “szallas.hu” organized its annual “Hotel and Tourism Excellence of the Year Competition and Awards Gala“. Debrecen was voted City of the Year by the guests and the professional jury of the event.

The Hungarian Tourism Agency announced at the 2022 awards ceremony of Flowery Hungary 2022 that Debrecen had won the main prize in the category of big cities, the long-running competition was held for the 29th time, this time at the Buda Campus of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences on Friday,  18th November 2022. More than 50 prizes were awarded to the various category winners of Flowery Hungary 2022.

There are many good things about New Zealand, and it’s no coincidence that the Maoris and Hobbits settled there. The Wellington café has also received the first swallows of the 2022 vintage, two luscious Sauvignon Blancs with a luscious, juicy bouquet: the Little Beauty and the Blank Canvas. They are paired with the previous years’ varieties with the help of sommelier Béla Vállai, and chef Géza Szűcs curates a dinner to match, resulting in a truly gourmet dinner introduction to the world of New Zealand’s most distinctive wine, Sauvignon Blanc.

A double celebration was held at the 101-room hotel in Darabos Street, Debrecen. In keeping with tradition, the project participants celebrated the construction of the building reaching its highest point with a bush-topping ceremony. It was also announced that the new hotel on Darabos Street will be called Hilton Garden Inn Debrecen City Center.

The Zoo Debrecen they are used to caring for 900 animals of 200 species, – throughout the year, now they wanted to extend this care to as many people as possible for Advent and the Christmas season, to make our recreational, experiential, and educational opportunities available. The Zoo Debrecen has announced that we will be holding a donation drive day, “DonationoZOO Day” on 26th November this year, to build on their giving tradition.

On Saturday, November 26th, the first weekend of Advent, festivities begin in Debrecen. The skating rink on Kossuth tér and the Christmas market will be open, there will be an Advent playhouse, concerts, and of course, the festive lights will be turned on!

On the evening of November 18th, 2022, the world-famous African-American Baptist monk Dwight Robson and his selected soloists are waiting for everyone to enjoy unadulterated joyous music in the Great Reformed Church.

During the one-and-a-half-hour-long concert, we can tune in to the Advent season with well-known songs such as “Hallelujah” and “Oh, Happy Day”, but we also have the opportunity to celebrate with other, popular and less well-known, but certainly beautiful, spiritually relevant tunes.

Advent in Debrecen will open its doors on 26th November at 9:00 a.m. and will be open for 4 weeks until 23rd December at 8:00 p.m. During this period, visitors can enjoy a fair, gastronomy, open-air concerts, family and children’s activities, and an ice rink.

The downtown fairgrounds will feature both modern and traditional products: carpets, weavings, handmade ceramics, wooden toys, gingerbread, herbs, teas, scones, and sumptuous Christmas decorations. More than 90 Christmas-themed stalls will offer a wide range of products, including a selection of special culinary delicacies.

The company’s latest branded store opened in an impressive 127-year-old building on Piac Street. 

The elegant 300-square-meter store also has a confectionery and ice cream parlor. Péter Csóll, managing director, emphasized that the exclusive brand store offers chocolate and handcrafted sweets and snacks in addition to pastries and confectionery products.

In three weeks’ time, the skating rink on Kossuth Square will open at the same time as the Christmas market on the 26th November.

The main square ice rink is already under construction, with around 800 square meters of skating rink in front of the church.  Last season, nearly 10,000 school children and 16,500 individual visitors came to the ice rink, with most of the city’s schools bringing their pupils. There were also a number of organized programs at the rink, with more than three thousand people taking part.

The restaurants included in the 2022 edition of the Michelin Guide for Hungary have been announced. The IKON Restaurant in Debrecen is one of them.

According to the communication, new Cívis InterRégió trains will run hourly between Nyugati station and Debrecen (line 100), using modern FLIRT motor trains.

Long-distance traffic is increasing and there is a growing demand for trains to the big cities and to homes in the countryside as well as between cities, and at a later time than the usual last trains around 6-7 pm.

On the third Saturday of each month, at the relaunched Egyháztáji fair, visitors can buy products from local producers and artisans at favorable prices in the heart of the city center. Freshly made Slambuc can even be taken away from the previous winner of the Hortobágy Slambuc Cooking Competition!

The Kocsis-Hauser Foundation organised the Zoltán Kocsis Memorial Festival in honour of the artist’s 70th birthday in three locations, Tiszadob, Mátészalka, and Debrecen, the latter being the final event of the festival. In Debrecen, the commemorative festival includes four programmes: three concerts and a masterclass in honour of Zoltán Kocsis.
