Life in Debrecen’s concert halls doesn’t stop after Christmas, with better and better programmes for those who want to party before New Year’s Eve. There’ll be no shortage of star bands either: Bohemian Betyars, Brains, and Carson Coma are among the bands playing, and Tankcsapda will be doing a double bill.

Join the traditional New Year’s Eve concert of the SONUS percussion ensemble on 31st December 2022 at the Liszt Hall of the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Music (Nagyerdei krt. 82.), where we will be waiting for you with a special concert from 5:00 p.m.

The world’s most popular dance show, Lord of the Dance, created by Michael Flatley, celebrates its 25th anniversary! To mark the anniversary, they will embark on a special European tour in 2023, including a performance in Hungary. The Hungarian audience will be able to see them in five Hungarian cities: Győr on 12th May 2023, Szeged on 13th May, Budapest on 14th May, Veszprém on 16th May, and Debrecen on 17th May.

The country’s most popular rock band, Tankcsapda, is continuing the tradition of several years, will close the year with a big concert in their hometown, Debrecen. This year, however, it will be a surprise for fans to hear that they can hear their favourite band twice this Christmas: on Tuesday 27th December, they will play all the songs from the album ‘The Best Poison’, among many other Tankcsapda classics, in the Lovarda. The next day, Wednesday 28th December, there will be a very strong ‘best of’ Tankcsapda show, also in the Lovarda.

One week left until Christmas. The fourth weekend of the Debrecen Advent program series offers various cultural and festive events in the upcoming days for those who would like to feel the Christmas vibe. Advent playhouse, festive concerts, gastro shows and ice disco are in the program offer.

The Christmas of the Animals, one of the most beautiful traditions of the Debrecen Zoo, held on 27th December between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., will be a special event for the 900 individuals of the 200 species living in the Zoo and the enthusiastic zoo lovers who support them.

Before the end of the year rush and the Christmas madness, it is worth stopping and pampering yourself a little to enjoy Christmas and close the year with renewed energy and rest. The Aquaticum Sauna World is the ideal place to do just that, with 26 sauna programmes to choose from this weekend.

On the third advent Sunday the iconic Reformed Great Church opens its doors in the evening so that we can admire the amazing festive lights of one of Europe’s most charming Christmas markets from the 40-meter-high panorama pavement of the church.

The last month of the year will see a succession of classical music concerts in Debrecen. For classical music lovers, there will be piano recitals, organ concerts, and large orchestra concerts, with early music and film scores alongside the great classics such as Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn.

This year, for the second time, the Ugly Sweater Run will be held in Debrecen, one of the aims of which is just to get active and enjoy sport together, while the other – more prominent – the aim is charity: to collect gifts for families in need. One of Debrecen Advent’s most popular community events takes place on Saturdays, 10th December.

The Reformed Great Church will host an extraordinary concert on Saturday, 10th December, from 7:00 p.m. The special feature of the event is that the church’s huge instrument will not be playing classical works written for the organ, but rather the well-known and famous melodies of popular films that are seldom played on the organ – and the Queen of Instruments can reproduce these works with incredible richness, power, and monumentality.

Travelmag listed 20 of the Most Charming Small Christmas Markets in Europe. The list includes the Advent fair of Debrecen being the only one selected from Hungary.

This winter, many of Europe’s most magnificent squares, town halls and boulevards will come alive with twinkling lights and festive cheer. While almost every major city on the continent will be preparing for showstopping events, many of the most charming markets can be found in more intimate and unexpected settings.
