The cycle path network of Debrecen + Hajdú-Bihar is expanding

Debrecen has been a bike-friendly city for years, many people get around on two wheels all year round, whether for school, work or leisure. Thanks to the planned urban and county cycle path developments, not only local cycling is being strengthened, but also cycling tourism both in and around the city.

The public procurement ordered by the municipality of Debrecen for the construction of a new cycle path was successful. Consequently, the municipality is building a 2,700-meter-long bicycle path between Sikló Street in Biczó István Garden and Panoráma út, following the route of Diószegi út.

According to the description of the tender, the entire length of the bicycle path will be more than two meters wide, and in addition to transporting the population, it will also serve tourist purposes.

This cycle path will also be connected to two other new cycle paths. One will be built on Wesselényi út, the other on Diószegi út. With the construction of the bicycle paths, we will be able to turn directly from the center of Debrecen to the Erdőspuszta around the city all the way to the beautiful Panorama Road.

Additionally, a bike path is currently being built on the west side of the city. The nearly three-meter-wide walking and cycling path will start on Kishatár Street, the roundabout at the roundabout leading to the Auchan Department Store, and will run along Kishatár and Torockó Streets until the junction of Kunhalom Street. Through the bicycle path, the industrial park located in the western part of Debrecen, as well as the various department stores, all will be safely accessible by bicycle.

In addition to Debrecen, the expansion of the cycle path network in Hajdú-Bihar County also continues. The plans put forward show that 77 kilometers of bike paths will be built in the county in the future. In addition to the Debrecen-Józsa-Hajdúböszörmény-Hajdúvid-Hajdúdorog route, there is also a plan to develop the Debrecen-Vámospércs, Debrecen-Bocskaikert-Téglás, Debrecen-Hortobágy and border cycling routes.
