The establishment of the Korean alphabet (Hangul) is celebrated in Korea on 9 October. To mark the occasion, a full day of Korean cultural activities is organized this year on 7 October.

The event is supported by the King Segyong Institute of Debrecen and the Debrecen Summer University and organized by the Debrecen Korean Cultural Association.

Concert of the Korean Presbyterian Women’s Association Choir

On 13 October (Friday) at 18:00, the choir of our sister church in South Korea will give a concert.

The Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK) Women’s Choir was formed in 1992 to evangelize through worship, participate in the movement for church unity, and provide music ministry at various events of the Presbyterian Church of Korea.

Bényi Gallery opens the autumn with an exhibition of contemporary women painters.

The Bényi Gallery opened the autumn season with a joint exhibition of two women painters entitled Time Becomes Matter.

The Bényi Gallery, located in the Kölcsey Centre, opened the autumn season with a joint exhibition of two painters – Anikó Éberling and Zsuzsa Szász – entitled Time Becomes Matter.

Both artists are characterized by a versatile, bold, creative use of materials and the reuse and reinterpretation of discarded objects. This is what gave rise to the idea of a joint exhibition, although the two artists have very different styles of representation – one abstract, the other concrete – the curator says they respond to the world around them with a very similar sensitivity.

Works of such famous composers as Brahms, Schubert, Bartók can be heard performed by the Kodály Philharmonics that celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023 and by the professors and guest performers of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen.

The Debrecen Folk Crafts Festival is organized for the 13th time in 2023 offering an opportunity to meet traditional Hungarian craftsmen and gain an insight into their work.

This year gingerbread masters join the outdoor event that is held on 22-23 September 2023 on Dósa nádor square. Visitors can meet 24 craftsmen representing 14 different crafts.

Debrecen’s newest mural has been completed and will now decorate the courtyard of the Rickl House at 39 Piac Street. The artwork was unveiled by Deputy Mayor of Debrecen István Puskás Puskás, Director of the Déri Museum  János Angi, and historian Katalin Váradi on the 12th of September 2023.

The renovated Csokonai Theater has opened.

After a three-year-long renovation, Debrecen’s historic theater has reopened.

On the 250th anniversary of the birth of Debrecen-born poet Mihály Csokonai Vitéz, the theater bearing his name has reopened after a three-year long renovation. The Csokonai Theater – built between 1861 and ’65 according to the plans of architect Antal Szkalnitzky – opened again with a gala show on 17 September 2023.
