The Debrecen Street Music Days is held for the third time this year offering free street music concerts on the last weekend of July, on July 28 and 29, Friday and Saturday.

Another installation by Hello Wood, known nationwide for its astonishing works, has appeared in Debrecen. This summer, while in the city centre, firewall paintings are being created to express the city’s identity; in the Great Forest (Nagyerdő), the main focus is on playful, entertaining creativity. For days, the people and tourists of Debrecen have been wondering what is being created on Pope John Paul II Square.. 

Children’s favorite playground, Sziget-kék Theme Park opened exactly a year ago, in July 2023. The park that was inspired by the Debrecen-born writer, Magda Szabó’s heart-warming fairy tale Sziget-kék (Blue Island) celebrates its first birthday with a 3-day long festival between 28 and 30 July.

Even though summer is at its height and we all long for outdoor activities, art galleries are open and await visitors with exciting exhibitions. Some of the current exhibitions close on July 31 so if you don’t want to miss them, take the last chance at the weekend and immerse yourself in some visual experiences.

You can never get bored in Debrecen between two festivals! In the summer, the city offers many outdoor program opportunities both in the city center and in the Nagyerdő. Here are some tips on where to go and what to do in Debrecen in the summer.

The Great Forest (Nagyerdő) in Debrecen has won an internet public vote organised by the Ministry of Agriculture; the Minister of Agriculture, István Nagy, presented the certificate.

At the end of May, the tower of the Church of Debrecen was opened to the public, where several exhibitions are waiting for visitors.

From the 11th of July to the 17th of August, the “Reformed Great Church in Love” program will be held.

Debrecen International Airport and the Aviation Cultural Center offer special airport tours.

The behind-the-scenes tours at Debrecen International Airport will be held on the 28th and 30th of July 2023.

The Deutsches Kulturforum Debrecen invites all film lovers to watch German films on Wednesday evenings in the courtyard of the B24. 

The Campus Festival will be held for the 15^th time between the 19^th and 23^rd of July. In the anniversary year, festivalgoers can expect a higher quality and more exciting selection of programs than ever before. In addition to the extremely popular performers, hip-hop and, in a unique way, rock and metal music will be given a separate independent stage, what is more, many musical delicacies and young talents will also be featured at the festival with the most ambitious music offer. Those interested in arts other than music will not be bored either, with a total of more than four hundred programs on offer.

Past and present meet in the Hortobágy with its mirage. Three days in the land of the foals!

In the past decades, the Hortobágy Equestrian Days have grown into a major event in the region, which is known across national borders. The main aim of the event is to promote the past and present of the pastoral culture of Hortobágy, the past and present of the Hortobágy Nonprofit Ltd. and the horse breeding work of Mátai Ménes, and its collection of horses, which is still in use and in operation today.

The work entitled “The Artist and the City” by the graphic artist Ákos László can now be seen on the firewall of the building at 28 Piac Street, facing Gambrinus köz and was unveiled on 3rd of July 2023.

Bohemian Life, Alice in Wonderland and Cyber Cyrano will also be on the theatre’s programme this year.

As the new director of the Csokonai Theatre previously revealed, the theatre season in Debrecen will start in autumn at five venues. The Csokonai National Theatre has announced the 2023/24 season programme: 18 new shows, musical cabarets and stand-up comedy are planned for the autumn.
