A weekend full of activities awaits us in Debrecen between 11 and 13 October.

A weekend full of activities awaits us in Debrecen between 11 and 13 October. The Great Forest Week is in full swing to mark the 85th anniversary of the Great Forest of Debrecen becoming Hungary’s first nature conservation area. As part of the week-long series of events, there will be a full day of nature-related activities throughout the city on 12 October. In addition, there will be a Night of the Heroes in the Amusement Park, a Health Day in the Thermal Baths, Scandinavian Film Days in the Apollo Cinema, a Korean Cultural Day in Lovarda, a children’s flea market on Batthyány Street and a craft fair in the northern event area of the Nagyerdei Stadium.

Debrecen Airport opens its doors to runners for the seventh time this year.

On October 5, 2024, the Wizz Air Debrecen Airport Run will be held for the seventh time in a special location, jointly organized by Debrecen International Airport Kft. and the Debrecen Sports Center.

The aim of the race is to promote running and a healthy lifestyle among people who want to do sports, and to provide families with an opportunity to relax in an exclusive environment. Participants will be able to get an insight into life at Debrecen airport and run where the planes usually fly.

MODEM enters its 18th year in 2024. It celebrates its coming of age with a three-day program from 26 to 28 September.

The MODEM Center for Modern and Contemporary Art enters its 18th year in 2024. From 26 to 28 September 2024, a three-day series of events will celebrate the coming of age of the 18-year-old pioneer of contemporary art.

The highlight of the event will include a varied program of events in 6 venues, 6 hours of concerts, a 2,500 m² exhibition space and 7 performances to make the celebrations unforgettable.

Concert on World Music Day

On the World Music Day, a festive concert awaits music lovers with the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra and young Debrecen talents.

“Music makes order out of chaos; rhythm holds the disparate together; melody makes the broken continuous; harmony reconciles the disparate.” (Yehudi Menuhin) On the initiative of the world-famous violinist, in 1975 UNESCO declared 1 October World Music Day. The Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra and young Debrecen talents will perform a concert on the first day of October to celebrate the day.

Debrecen becomes a real fairground on the weekend of 21-22 September!

Debrecen, known for centuries as a city of fairs, still preserves the memory of the old fairs. Although the traditional fairs are now held only twice a year, smaller and larger fairs pop up from time to time in different parts of the city. On the weekend of 21-22 September, Debrecen turns into fairground: on Saturday, there will be a church fair, a children’s flea market and a design fair, and on Sunday an antiques fair.

Tim Robbins and The Actors’ Gang will be guest performers for two nights in the Csokonai Theatre with their production of Topsy Turvy (Ramazuri), announced Dr. István Puskás, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen responsible for culture, and Dr. Szabolcs Mátyássy, Director of the Csokonai National Theatre Debrecen, at a press conference.

Asia is moving to the Great Forest, at least from 14 to 15 September for the Chinese Autumn Festival and Panda Days.

For the first time, Zoo Debrecen 2024 will welcome visitors with a special series of events between 14 and 15 September 2024, bringing a slice of Asia to the heart of the Great Forest. The aim of the Chinese Autumn Festival and Panda Days is to give visitors a deeper insight into the natural wonders, cultural history and traditions of Asia, including China.
