Debrecen Extreme Sports Park was inaugurated

The new Debrecen Extreme Sports Park was inaugurated on March 18. The multi-sport park includes five tracks for extreme sports lovers.

The new Debrecen Extreme Sports Park will give a new impetus to the development of many sports in the city.

The construction works taking place in the Tócóvölgy, located behind Jégcsarnok (Debrecen Ice Hall) have been completed, and the new Debrecen Extreme Sports Park was inaugurated on 18th March 2023 by  Minister of State for Active Hungary Máriusz Révész and Mayor of Debrecen László Papp.

Second Made in Debrecen Festival is coming

The Made in Debrecen is held for the second time in 2023. The aim of the festival is to showcase the talents of as many local musicians and individual performers as possible in different venues across the city.

The Made in Debrecen festival was held for the first time in 2022. The aim of the festival is to showcase the talents of as many local musicians and individual performers as possible in different venues across the city. Each performer will be given 20 minutes of installation time and 20 minutes of playing time.

The most popular tourist program of Hortobágy, the horse-and-carriage ride is available again from March 18.

The most popular tourist program of Hortobágy, the horse-and-carriage ride is available again from March 18.

The program starts at the tourist info point of the Bar Nyerges in Máta. Visitors can go on a 45-minute ride by horse carriages into the protected areas of the Hortobágy National Park to have a close look at the typical buildings and sheds of the Puszta, and the spectacular show of local horsemen.

Trash art exhibition opened in the Bényi Gallery

The exhibition “TrashKós freskók” that opened on 9 March in the front window of the Bényi Gallery uses the tools of trash art to show that trash is not necessarily a useless thing.

The genre of trash art or junk art was born in the USA in the early 20th century, when the modernist view of consumer society and its related concepts were first examined. Trash art uses ordinary, everyday materials that often end up in the trash, and has become associated with raising awareness of environmental issues and social responsibility.

MODEM opens a new exhibition on February 18 entitled Close to the Soil that showcases works from Hungary’s biggest private art collection, the Antal–Lusztig Collection.

MODEM opened a new exhibition on February 18 entitled Close to the Soil that showcases works from Hungary’s biggest private art collection, the Antal–Lusztig Collection.

Exhibited here, in 2023, is a selection from the works in the fourth volume forming part of the book- and exhibition-series devoted to the largest private collection in Hungary. The central motif of the exhibition is the Great Hungarian Plain. The special features and characteristics of this landscape were first observed by the painters of Romanticism, who wished to present something uniquely Hungarian – something that other countries and peoples did not have – both for themselves and for the world at large.

Several anniversaries are celebrated in 2023 in the Hortobágy, Hungary’s oldest and biggest national park that awaits visitors with a series if festive events this year.

The end of the 1960s marked an important milestone in the history of Hungarian nature protection when a widescale co-operation began and Hungary first national park was established in the Hortobágy on January 1, 1973, exactly 50 years ago this year.

Zoo Debrecen celebrates the World Wildlife Day due on March 3 with a 3-day program series.

March 3 marks World Wildlife Day, the number one global conservation observance intended to raise awareness of the great richness and value of wildlife on Earth as well as the current plight it faces and the urgent need for conservation efforts. Turning 50 this year, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed on March 3, 1973 – a date that was proclaimed a new addition to the global conservation calendar by the UN General Assembly in 2013.

Kodály Philharmonics invites classical music lovers on an exciting journey in February. The program and the theme of the concerts are versatile but two things are in common – the respect to all the great composers and the carnival season. The concerts feature classical tunes by great composers like Strauss, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Schubert and guest performances by the Choir of the Oradea State Philharmonics and the Concerto Piano on several occasions. Kids can join a carnival time concert too in February held in the popular Sziget-kék Themes Park.

Tourism in Debrecen exceeded expectations in 2022.

The number of guest nights exceeded the data measured in 2019 before COVID-19. In 2002, visitors spent almost 54,000 guest nights at the Aquaticum Hotel. Lajos Fazekas, the managing director of Aquaticum Debrecen Kft., said that they have noticed that they have 40-45 percent more guests this winter than last year, and many people visited the thermal spa as well.
