Fly To Cyprus In Spring

Wizz Air planned to resume all three flights in June 2022, but the resumption of the Cyprus flight started a month earlier than planned. The first flight will operate on the 28th of March, and there will be two flights a week, Monday and Friday, until the end of October.

Last year, Wizz Air operated three classic holiday flights from Debrecen to Mallorca, Cyprus, and the island of Santorini in Greece. The flights operated until October 2021. Since November 2021, they have been available to book on Wizz Air’s 2022 schedule, however, there has been a modification.

Family Bike Day Entitled “Bicóval a Biczóba!”

People from Debrecen are invited to cycle together from the city centre to nature on Debrecen’s newest and longest cycle path.

The first stop and meeting point of the Family Bringanap on 27th March will be Baltazár Dezső Square, from where cyclists will set off at 10 a.m. and ride to the Bánki Arboretum.

Sting’s Concert in Debrecen Rescheduled to Autumn

Due to existing international health restrictions, the concert of Sting’s My Songs tour in Debrecen will take place on 29th September instead of 17th March at the Főnix Arena.

Due to ongoing international health restrictions, Sting My Songs’ tour dates of 7th to 21st March will be postponed until Autumn 2022. This postponement also affects the Debrecen show, so the concert originally scheduled for 17th March will take place on 29th September at the Főnix Arena. Tickets purchased are automatically valid for the new date.

Men’s basketball world championship qualifying match

On 24th February, the Hungarian men’s basketball team will resume its qualifying campaign for the 2023 World Championship. They will play against Montenegro at the Főnix Arena.

Sztojan Ivkovic’s team will play against Montenegro in Group E in the next window – first on Thursday, February 24, in Debrecen, at 18:00, and then three days later, Sunday, also at 18:00, but in the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, where the Montenegrins will play the Montenegrins.

Zsuzsi will be 140 years old this Year

The Zsuzsi Forest Railway started its operations 140 years ago this year on 16th July 1882. To mark the anniversary, the Zsuzsi train is celebrating with a series of festive events throughout the year.

The country’s oldest narrow-gauge railway is celebrating its milestone anniversary. The Zsuzsi Forest Railway started operating 140 years ago this year, on 16th July 1882, transporting timber felled in the Gúth forest. The train, which now operates as a sightseeing tour, will celebrate the anniversary with a series of festive events throughout the year, the first of which will be the Zsuzsanna Day Winter Farewell on 26th February.

The Zsuzsi Forest Railway traditionally starts each year with the celebration of Zsuzsanna Day. This year will be no different, but instead of 19th February, the name day will be held on 26th February – 140 days before the 140th birthday – and there will be a winter party with music and dancing and traditional activities.

Conductor János Ács, who has conducted eight different productions of Troubadour in different parts of the world, recommends Verdi’s masterpiece to those who like emotionally profound music.

Carnival (Farsang) in the Debrecen Zoo

The exhilarating atmosphere will be provided by the Szeredás Folk Music Ensemble in animal costumes and the carnival dance performance of Lesz Dance, followed by the traditional main attraction of the event, the wintertime straw puppet burning. Visitors are encouraged to put on their costumes or masks for an even more unforgettable celebration, but there will also be a chance to make fun masks on-site at the Gibbon House Craft Corner or to paint animal faces at the Palm House. And of course, the carnival doughnuts will be part of the gastronomic fun.

Concerto Budapest Concert

When many people think of Beethoven, the first thing that rings in their ears is the beginning of Symphony No. 5. However, this repetitive motif can be observed not only in this work but also in other pieces, such as Beethoven’s only violin concerto. The work, written for Franz Clement, the 21-year-old music director and concertmaster of the Theater an der Wien, begins in D major with five timpani beats, a highly unusual beginning.

After a few bars, this gesture is taken over by the first violin in D flat, which is clearly foreign to the basic key of the movement. A sense of balance and this strange sense of unease persists throughout the movement.
